Silk Road: Kyrgyzstan & Uzbekistan - Wild Mountains, Fabled Towns
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan may be Central Asian neighbours, but they couldn’t be more different. For while Kyrgyzstan is a land of epic mountain scenery and semi-nomadic shepherds, Uzbekistan is home to the atmospheric towns of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, probably Central Asia’s most revered Silk Road trading centres.
Starting in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan we’ll visit great friends of ours, including Jergal, the caretaker of the medieval caravanserai in Tash Rabat. We’ll spend much of our time in traditional yurts and will be introduced to the ways of mountain life on the Old Silk Road, before driving on to the ancient city of Osh. From here we will cross the border into Uzbekistan and travel on to see the fabled cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand where merchants still ply their wares in the shadow of some of the world’s greatest architectural achievements.
If you like to really get beneath a region’s surface, rather than simply travel through it, this is the trip for you.

At Wild Frontiers we have always strived to offer the most authentic, safe and ethically sensitive travel experiences on the market, not necessarily the cheapest. From the support system in London to the holiday itself, we feel we offer the best way to see and experience a destination and that is why our loyal clients come back to us time and again. So when making price comparisons, please bear in mind the following:
On your trip
On all but a handful of group tours our maximum size is 12.
We use dedicated tour leaders as well as local guides.
We aim to use quality, interesting and experiential accommodation – usually the best available.
We tend to offer our trips on an all-inclusive basis. (Please check specific dossier for details but this could add in excess of £400 to competitors pricing!).
We include drinking water, and often soft drinks.
We aim to use the most efficient, interesting, safe and comfortable transport available.
As part of our ethical policy, we pay a fair price for the services offered to us, thus making sure our local staff and crews receive a fair wage.
Peace of mind
We are fully ATOL & ABTOT protected – with us your money is safe!
