Day 1 Tour begins in Phnom Penh

Day 1 Tour begins in Phnom Penh
The tour suggested group flights arrive in Phnom Penh in the early evening. There are no meals or activities included on this day.
Day 2 Phnom Penh: Highlights of the Capital

Day 2 Phnom Penh: Highlights of the Capital
Cambodia’s capital city is a thriving hub of activity. Sitting on the banks of the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers with wonderful crumbling colonial architecture, it’s a city spinning into the future. We set out this morning to the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum where we will learn about the history of the Khmer Rouge through the different museum displays. We then continue on to the Choeung Ek Memorial, the site of one of the country’s many killing fields. This sobering visit offers an important insight into Cambodia’s tragic and very recent history. Returning to the city, we explore the highlights of this truly fascinating city, including the National Museum and the Royal Palace this afternoon. After returning to the hotel to freshen up we will then hop in to tuk tuks for an evening street food tour taking in the lively market, watching the city from a roof top bar and enjoying some of the local Khmer delicacies.
Day 3 Phnom Penh – Kampot: Train Journey & River Cruise

Day 3 Phnom Penh – Kampot: Train Journey & River Cruise
An early start this morning will see us boarding the train for Kampot. The train takes us through lush scenery passing by villages and towns and offering the chance to meet and chat with fellow passengers (train journey dependent on timetable and local conditions). On arrival in Kampot we will enjoy a tour of the city, set on the Praek Tuek Chhu River. It was once an important port, flourishing in the 19th century under the French and still home to much colonial architecture. Before dinner we will enjoy a cruise on the river to admire the city from the water.
Day 4 Kampot: Pepper Plantation & Kep

Day 4 Kampot: Pepper Plantation & Kep
Kampot is known throughout the region for its peppers and this morning we will head to a pepper plantation where we can take a tour of the farm before a cookery class gives us an insight into the local cuisine. Afterwards we will sit down to enjoy the fruits of our labour for lunch. This afternoon we will drive to the coast and the town of Kep, once a booming seaside town, and now going through a regeneration. We will head to the markets for a browse amongst the stalls before enjoying some time on the beach, a popular place with locals. Returning to Kampot in the evening we’ll enjoy dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 5 Kampot – Cardamom Mountains: Mountain Drive

Day 5 Kampot – Cardamom Mountains: Mountain Drive
Leaving Kampot today we will drive through lush rice paddy fields and traditional Khmer villages with a backdrop of the Elephant Mountains in the distance. As we reach the Cardamom Mountains we’ll pass by tall pine forests before we cross some of the wide rivers and enter into the jungle. The driving time will be approximately 4.5 hours depending on road conditions. To reach our low impact eco-camp we will leave the bus and take a boat down the Preak Tachen River. The Cardamom Mountains and the various species that make them their home have long been under threat from logging and poaching. The Wildlife Alliance has been working to protect the forests and the wildlife and this afternoon we will learn about their work in the area. Afterwards there will be time for a walk, kayak or swim in the river, or the more adventurous may like to try out the zipline.
*Approx driving time 4.5hrs
Day 6 Cardamom Mountains: Kayaking & Jungle Walks

Day 6 Cardamom Mountains: Kayaking & Jungle Walks
Taking to the water today, a gentle 1.5 hour kayaking trip will bring us to an old ranger station from where we can explore some more of the trails with our local guide who will be looking out for wildlife to teach us about the jungle. Returning to the camp on foot for lunch the afternoon is free for further hiking or kayaking or simply relaxing by the river before watching the sun set over the national park.
Total walking distance 4km; approx. 2 hours
Day 7 Cardamom Mountains – Battambang: Vibrant Colonial City

Day 7 Cardamom Mountains – Battambang: Vibrant Colonial City
For the early risers there’ll be time for a quick hike or a kayak on the misty river before we take the boat back to the bus and drive on through the forested mountains for around 6 hours to Battambang. Founded in the 11th century Battambang is known for its well preserved French colonial architecture and café culture; there is also a strong street art scene with many of the walls providing canvases for local artists.
*Approx driving time 6hrs
Day 8 Battambang: Countryside Cycle & Bat Cave

Day 8 Battambang: Countryside Cycle & Bat Cave
Heading out into the countryside today we learn more about life in one of the local villages with a morning of cycling* (approximately 22km). Here we can learn about local industries, such as the methods of making rice paper, grolan (sticky rice in bamboo) and prahok (a pungent fish paste). We will learn about the lives of the villagers as we watch them making these delicacies. Cycling on through rice paddies and orchards we will discover Wat Samraong Knong, a Buddhist temple which was used as an interrogation centre under the Khmer Rouge and now stands as a memorial for the more than 10,000 victims. In the afternoon, we journey upwards to Phnom Sampeau Mountain to visit the sombre killing fields and mountaintop temple which offers spectacular views stretching across miles and miles of rice paddies. In the late afternoon we will move onto the bat caves and perch ourselves at the ready for the spectacular sunset display of hundreds of bats flying away from the cave. After sunset we return to town for the evening.

Day 9 Battambang – Banteay Chhmar: Village Homestay & Temple Dinner

Day 9 Battambang – Banteay Chhmar: Village Homestay & Temple Dinner
A morning’s drive of around 3 hours will bring us to the majestic Banteay Chhmar Temple; here we check in to our homestay in the village where we will enjoy the warm, local hospitality, starting with a lunch of local dishes. The homestay network in Banteay Chhmar was created by the villagers some years ago in order to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of the area. While staying with the villagers we will have the opportunity to learn about their lives and explore the local area with them. A walking tour this afternoon will take us to main temple, famous for its signature faces of Jayavarman VII. Amongst other things we see the magnificent carvings of Lokesvara with 32 arms, as well as the beautiful Hall of Dancers. The outer complex has impressive gates and is protected by a moat and the jungle-clad towers of Yeay Chy and Samnang Tasok. We will also explore Prasat Ta Prohm Temple before watching the sunset over the Baray Mebon reservoir, home to an 11th century temple. Our dinner this evening will be provided by the community homestay and will be taken in the temple, lit by wooden torches and accompanied by traditional music.
Day 10 Banteay Chhmar – Siem Reap: Village Cycle & Silk Centre

Day 10 Banteay Chhmar – Siem Reap: Village Cycle & Silk Centre
This morning we’ll set off by bicycle* around 1.5km, through the villages to visit the Soiries du Mekong Silk Centre, an initiative set up by the community in order to provide skills and employment to women in the area. From here a wander through the local market will allow us to immerse ourselves further in the local culture before we take a tractor ride to Banteay Torp Temple passing paddy fields and villages. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at the temple in this little visited area of Cambodia before we head to Siem Reap, approximately 3 hours away. Siem Reap is Cambodia’s second largest city and home to hundreds of temples including the magnificent Angkor Wat. This evening we will have a special dining experience at the Apsara Theatre, enjoying a Khmer dinner followed by a performance of graceful Apsara dances, an art form rooted in the Khmer Empire and the golden era of Angkor.

Day 11 Siem Reap: Angkor Wat & Banteay Srei

Day 11 Siem Reap: Angkor Wat & Banteay Srei
Waking up early this morning we head to Angkor Wat for sunrise after which we can enjoy a morning tour of the temple before the main crowds arrive. Mid-morning we return to the hotel for breakfast and some free time. After lunch we head out of Siem Reap to experience the 10th century, red sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, the Citadel of Women. One of the smaller temples in the area, it is beautifully designed and built with intricate carvings. On our return to the city we will stop at the APOPO Visitor Centre where for over 25 years hero rats have been trained and are clearing landmines. At its peak it was suspected there were around 4-6 million landmines in Cambodia and since the war there have been tens of thousands of casualties as a result. We will see a simulation and meet a landmine specialist to understand their work.
Day 12 Siem Reap: Village Tour & Tonle Sap

Day 12 Siem Reap: Village Tour & Tonle Sap
This morning we drive for about an hour to a local village where we can visit a market as well as stopping off in family homes and a Khmer smokehouse. Here we will learn about the process of smoking along with hearing about village life and local traditions. Following this we head to the Bakong temple and receive a Buddhist blessing from the local monks. After lunch we board a boat for a 40-minute ride to one of the lake villages on the vast Tonle Sap Lake. The homes are built on stilts here as the area floods in the rainy season. Venturing through waterways, flooded forests and out into the lake, we make our way back through the village experiencing how the locals live in this watery environment. This evening we will be treated to a unique performance by the Cambodian Circus, also known as the hugely talented Phare Ponleu Selpak. Literally translated as ‘’the brightness of the arts’’, this artistic and social centre has been running as a non-profit association since 1994, and was founded by a group of young ex-refugees from Battambang Province. Sitting in the centre of the big top tent, we will witness some remarkable acrobatics and visual arts while supporting one of Cambodia’s most inspiring projects.
Day 13 Siem Reap: Hidden Temples of Angkor Cycling Tour

Day 13 Siem Reap: Hidden Temples of Angkor Cycling Tour
A cycling* tour (approximately 20km) of the Angkor Archaeological Park allows us to visit some remote corners, starting at the West Gate of Angkor Thom; of the five gates of the great city of Jayavarman VII this is the most unrestored. Our trail will take us along the enclosure wall through forested areas to the North Gate from where we head to the jungle clad Preah Khan, a massive temple complex which had a population of nearly 100,000. As we continue on, making our way to the South Gate we will pass by many smaller temples and ruins such as those of Ta Nei, Takeo Temple and pass the East Gate or Gate of the Dead. We will end the tour with a climb up the pyramid temple of Baksei Chamkrong, home to some beautiful carvings. This afternoon we will use tuk tuks to visit Ta Prohm, the temple famous for the trees and vines growing through it before we continue to Angkor Thom and the Terrace of the Elephants. We will end the visit at Bayon where we will experience the 54 faces of the Buddha looking out into the jungle. We enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant this evening.

Day 14 Tour ends in Siem Reap

ACCOMMODATION USED ON THIS TOUR
Sun and Moon Riverside, Phnom Penh
Set along the banks of the Tonle Sap River in central Phnom Penh, Sun & Moon Riverside is a modern, mid-range hotel with a lively atmosphere and a great location for exploring the city. Just a short walk from the Royal Palace, riverside promenade, and bustling night markets, it makes a convenient base for travellers wanting to be in the heart of it all. Rooms are bright and comfortable, with clean lines, bold colours and all the essentials — air-conditioning, strong Wi-Fi and good showers. Some rooms have views over the river, while others look out toward the city skyline. The rooftop is the hotel’s standout feature, with a small infinity pool, bar and seating areas that offer excellent sunset views. There’s also a gym and a small spa, as well as a café on the ground floor for breakfast and light bites.
River Tree Villas, Kampot
Tucked away on the quiet banks of the Kampot River, River Tree Villas offers a peaceful escape just 10–15 minutes outside Kampot town. Surrounded by lush greenery and views of distant hills, the property feels far from the bustle, while still being close enough for easy access to Kampot’s cafés, markets and colonial-era streets. The villas are simple but spacious, each with high ceilings, large windows and private terraces — some right at the water’s edge. Interiors lean toward minimalism, with polished concrete floors, natural wood touches and just enough comfort to feel relaxed without being overdone. Guests can swim in the saltwater pool, paddle along the river, or simply unwind in hammocks under the trees. The onsite restaurant serves local and western dishes, and while the menu is fairly small, the food is fresh and satisfying.
Cardamom Tented Camp, Boutum Sakor National Park
Recently opened in 2017, the Cardamom Tented Camp is a three-way initiative between The Minor Group, YAANA Ventures and Wildlife Alliance to ensure the conservation of the Botum Sakor National Park in western Cambodia. The eco lodge camp is a sustainable tourism development project with a percentage of its revenues going directly to conservation efforts in the park and any additional profits reinvested locally as well as supporting other initiatives – such as the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation. Guests in the camp can contribute to the conservation work here through camera trapping activities, going on patrols with the forest rangers, recording any wildlife footprints, cataloguing flora and fauna seen and learning about the negative influences of poaching, logging and sand dredging to the area. Stay within one of the nine tents featuring queen beds, fans, rattan furniture, rain showers and a patio. The camp has 24 hour electricity, so you can charge your cameras to take the best wildlife photos. Eat at the raised Riverbank Restaurant overlooking the idyllic, slow-moving Preak
Battambang Resort, Battambang
A peaceful escape in the beautiful Cambodian countryside, the charming Battambang Resort has become a solid favourite in this area. Located just outside of town, the property offers lush tropical gardens which surround a stunning saltwater pool and jacuzzi. Run by a fantastic team, the resort also features a restaurant located on the first floor of the complex, which is home to some delicious local dishes, as well as clean, spacious rooms dotted around the property. Although it is located out of town (approx. 15 mins), the team do provide a free shuttle into town at set times of the day, and you can also borrow one of their bicycles to explore the surrounding area.
Community Homestay, Banteay Chhmar
The Banteay Chhmar Community Homestay offers a rare and meaningful opportunity for those looking to experience rural Cambodia beyond the usual tourist routes. Located next to the remote and little-visited Banteay Chhmar temple complex, this community-run initiative welcomes guests into local homes for a simple, authentic stay. The accommodation is basic yet clean, with wooden stilt houses offering private rooms, mosquito nets and shared wash facilities. Bedding is firm, and amenities are limited, there is no electricity or hot water — this is very much a village experience — but what it lacks in comfort, it makes up for in warmth and genuine hospitality. Meals are home-cooked and shared with hosts or served in the community dining area, with dishes made from local produce. Hosts are friendly and proud to share their culture, and visitors are often invited to explore village life, visit the nearby temple ruins, or take part in traditional crafts and cooking. The homestay is part of a broader community tourism project with proceeds are reinvested into local development.
The Lynnaya Urban River Resort & Spa, Siem Reap
The Lynnaya Urban River Resort & Spa offers arguably one of the best locations in Siem Reap. Located right by the river, but on the Wat Bo side of town, the resort combines the charm of this quieter part of central Siem Reap with the benefits of still being within walking distance of the main areas. The spacious rooms are beautifully decorated with simple local decor, and the outdoor freshwater pool provides a stunning focal point where you can enjoy some downtime after exploring the magical Angkor temples. On site you can enjoy delicious local and international dishes at Palate Restaurant, as well as some well-0earned sundowners in Palate's rooftop bar, where on certain days of the week you can also enjoy live music. And don't forget to indulge in one of the many spa treatments available, a must-do with any visit to Cambodia.

Responsible Travel
With local people, culture and eco-systems in mind, responsible travel and sustainable tourism are at the core of Wild Frontiers. We believe that a successful trip not only delivers a unique and unsurpassable journey for our travellers but also benefits the people and places we visit.
When designing our tours, we actively seek out experiences that have a positive impact on the communities and precious environments we visit - from supporting social enterprises; resting our heads in rural homestays; and eating at locally owned restaurants; to helping fund conservation projects that protect wildlife and their habitats.
Visit the Responsible Travel area of our website to read more, including the work of the Wild Frontiers Foundation through which we fundraise to aid community empowerment and education projects.

Local Initiatives
Local Initiatives
Siem Reap is a hub for non-profit organisations and social enterprises, which have been established to help support local initiatives in a variety of ways, from providing educational support to improving conservation efforts throughout the country. During this tour we will get the chance to visit some of these initiatives and learn more about their efforts and achievements.
Phare Circus
One of the highlights of this tour will surely be witnessing the incredible talents of the Cambodian Circus, also known as Phare Ponleu Selpak. Literally translated as ‘’the brightness of the arts’’, this Artistic and Social Center has been running as a non-profit association since 1994, and was founded by a group of young ex-refugees from Battambang Province. Combining remarkable acrobatics and visual arts with a fiery energy and humour, this is a wonderful way to support one of Cambodia’s most inspiring projects.

Reducing Single Use Plastic
We recognise the environmental issues and challenges around single-use plastic in many countries we visit and are actively working with our partners on the ground to reduce plastic waste on our tours and within the hotels and restaurants we visit. You can help to reduce your personal plastic waste by taking a refillable, filtered water bottle with you on your trip. Filtered water bottles can be refilled from water sources including your hotel room and restaurant taps, drinking fountains and refill stations. Every time you refill your bottle without the use of single-use plastic, you will be helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. Filtered Water Bottles | Wild Frontiers (wildfrontierstravel.com)

Banteay Chhmar Community Tourism
Travelling to Banteay Chhmar isn’t just about exploring ancient temples—it’s about forging meaningful connections with a community committed to preserving its way of life. Through its award-winning community tourism initiative, local families open their homes to visitors, offering warm hospitality, traditional meals and insight into daily Khmer life. Over 70 members of the community are directly involved in the initiative ensuring that tourism income stays local and skills are passed down. By staying in the village we can directly support education, conservation and the local economy as well as providing us with a unique and rewarding experience of the culture.

Cardamom Tented Camp
Cardamom Tented Camp is a pioneering force in eco-tourism, designed with a clear mission: “Your Stay Keeps the Forest Standing.” Set within a 180,000-hectare protected area in Botum Sakor National Park, the camp operates in partnership with conservation NGOs and the Wildlife Alliance to support forest rangers in their fight against illegal logging, wildlife trafficking and land encroachment. We will have the opportunity to learn about the work of the Wildlife Alliance as well as heading out with rangers to see the work they do in the forest. The camp itself is solar-powered, plastic-free and built for minimal environmental impact.
Supplementary Information

Cycling in Cambodia
Bicycles are still frequently used by locals to get around in Cambodia, especially in more rural areas, and we think it’s a great way to see the sights. In the cycling option offered on this trip there is the chance to explore the temples around Siem Reap and the countryside in Battambang and Banteay Chhmar. The surfaces may be uneven in places but the terrain is fairly flat and we would class the ride as easy and leisurely. Please note that cycle helmets are provided in Siem Reap and Battambang but are NOT provided or able to be sourced locally in Banteay Chhmar so you may like to bring your own for safety and protection. Please note that anyone wishing to opt out of the cycle rides can easily do so by walking through the area instead.Getting There

Key Information
CLIMATE
Cambodia has a climate that is warm all year round, but it does have distinct seasons. The dry season runs from November to May with the first half being cool and the second, March to May, being hot and humid. The wet season is between June and October. The daytime temperature on this tour will generally be 30-35 degrees, so hats and sunscreen all round!
IS THIS TRIP FOR ME?
It may sound obvious, but not all Wild Frontiers tours are the same, and it is important that you choose a tour which is suitable for you. To help you decide and ensure you choose a suitable tour, please refer to our helpful guide here. As a minimum, you should make sure that you read the day-by-day itinerary and the Key Aspects to Consider sections carefully. Should you still have any concerns about your ability to partake in any aspect of the tour, then please contact us.
KEY ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
Anyone in a reasonable state of health, with an open mind and a sense of adventure should be perfectly able to cope with this tour, as many of the activities are optional. However, please note that we do have two cycling tours, one in Battambang and another in Angkor, there is also the option for a short village cycle in Banteay Chhmar. We will also be kayaking and walking in the Cardamom Mountains. At Banteay Chhmar we will be staying in village homestays, rooms are single or twin share and bathrooms will be shared between two rooms. We are in a remote village so all facilities will be very basic and there will be no hot water.
THE NATURE OF ADVENTURE TRAVEL
We feel that it’s worth pointing out that while we will always strive to stick as close to the stated itinerary as possible, it may be necessary from time to time to make changes to our itineraries or services (due to weather, political and religious influences etc.) and this can happen with little or no notice. This unpredictability can be one of the most exciting aspects of adventure travel and for many of our clients often leads to unexpected highlights as the tour-leader necessarily adapts the tour to the changing conditions. However we are aware that this lack of assuredness may not suit everyone. As such, with the greatest respect, if you are someone who needs to know that everything will happen exactly as planned, we would kindly suggest that perhaps our tours are not for you. Adventure travel can be infectious and once you’ve caught the bug, it is likely to never leave you, but especially if this is your first such tour we would strongly urge you to give us a call if you have any concerns whatsoever about your suitability for this trip.
TRAVELLING SOLO AND SINGLE SUPPLEMENTS
As a company approximately 70% of our clients are solo travellers, so it’s very unlikely you’ll be alone!
Our prices are typically based on twin-share accommodation, but single supplements are not compulsory for any Wild Frontiers tour. If you prefer not to pay a single supplement, we’ll pair you with someone else of the same sex for you to share with throughout the trip.
On this trip, if you do opt to pay for a single supplement then please note that it will cover you for all nights of the tour.
Please note that paying a single supplement entitles you to lone occupancy of a single room. In many cases these rooms will be of the same size as a double/twin room, but in some cases they may be smaller.
INSURANCE
Insurance that provides cover for emergency repatriation in case of a medical emergency is compulsory for all tours. You should be aware that due to some of the geographical areas visited and some of the activities included on certain of our trips some standard insurance policies may not always provide adequate cover. As such we strongly recommend that you purchase a policy that adequately covers your trip. Please see the Insurance section for more details.
