Witness a country of the most staggering and enchanting beauty with one of our Vietnam Tours. Our incredible Vietnam holiday packages take it all in, from the dramatic landscapes of its north, where jagged mountains and lush rice paddies straddle the Chinese border, to the dense jungles of the south, where the mighty Mekong River flows into the sea.
Vietnam is still a relatively new country which was only united in 1975, following two decades of conflict - first for independence from France and then unification during the Vietnam War. The wounds of these conflicts have healed faster than many would have expected, and the Vietnamese people now welcome travellers from around the world with open arms and open hearts to witness the growing economy and cosmopolitan attitude embodied in the thriving urban centres of Ho Chi Minh City – formerly Saigon – and Hanoi, the country’s capital. Both of these cities combine modern city living with something quintessentially Vietnamese, whether that’s the friendly people, bustling street markets or the delicious aroma of the national dish, Pho. Talking of food, a trip to Vietnam is a great place to try your hand at cooking some local culinary specialities under the guidance of a local chef.
Vietnam is blessed with an abundance of majestic scenery, from the tropical beaches of Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, and the soaring mountains of Sapa and the north, to the towering limestone islands of Ha Long Bay, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the lesser known Lan Ha Bay. Travellers looking to really escape the crowds and find some tranquillity should head to the verdant green mountains of Ha Giang province, an area decorated with picturesque rice terraces and colourful hill tribe villages, making it a magical place to disconnect and enjoy some trekking in one of the most beautiful and culturally rich parts of the country.
Heading south, the Mekong Delta provides an ecological paradise for wildlife lovers, sheltering a vast array of animals, birds and fish with the vast delta providing a home to over 1,000 different species. Here you can spend your day meandering down one of Asia’s great waterways in style while admiring the fertile landscapes, floating markets and thriving villages; all the while sampling the delicious authentic cuisine and warm hospitality of those you meet.
Travellers seeking the traditional side of Vietnam need not look very far - the old imperial capital of Hue and the winding backstreets of Hoi An offer a glimpse into an ancient past. The former’s UNESCO-recognized Imperial City, known as the ‘Forbidden Purple City’, is a particular highlight for those wishing to discover more about Vietnam’s history. Other reminders of a more recent episode in Vietnam’s national story can be seen through the exquisite architecture of its French colonial buildings, including the magnificent Saigon Central Post Office and Ho Chi Minh City’s very own Notre Dame Cathedral, not to mention the inescapable Gallic twist found in Vietnamese cuisine.
