ITINERARY
This is a suggested itinerary. Our experts have all travelled widely in the region and will be happy to tailor any of our itineraries to suit your tastes, or build a trip from scratch.
DAY 1: ARRIVE CUSCO

DAY 1: ARRIVE CUSCO
Your journey begins in the captivating city of Cusco, considered by many to be the archaeological capital of the Americas. One of the oldest inhabited cities on the continent, it provides the backdrop today for a privately guided tour of your own choosing. After transferring from the airport and freshening up at the hotel, visit the impressive colonial grandeur of the Plaza de Armas, wander through the city’s bustling markets or gaze across the red tiled rooftops from San Cristobal Church. The day also includes lunch in a beautifully converted colonial building just off the main square.
DAY 2: CUSCO

DAY 2: CUSCO
The day is divided between a gloriously scenic electric bike tour through the Andean countryside around Cusco and a cooking lesson and market visit with a local Peruvian chef. Suitable for all experiences, the bike tour can be tailored to suit you and will include the Inca ruins of Tambo Machay, Puca Pucara and Sacsayhuaman. The other half of the day has then been set aside to learn from experts how to source, prepare and make the perfect Peruvian dish.
DAY 3: CUSCO - OLLANTAYTAMBO

DAY 3: CUSCO - OLLANTAYTAMBO
A day biking through the timeless scenery of the Sacred Valley begins at Tika Tika, on the outskirts of Cusco. Enjoying views out across the Anta Valley and on towards the surrounding mountains, you’ll begin riding through a landscape dotted with rural villages as you make your way initially towards the emerald green waters of Lake Piuray and the Inca town of Chinchero. A scenic picnic lunch at Lake Huaypo is then followed by a largely downhill trail towards the salt pans of Maras and on towards Ollantaytambo.
DAY 4: CUSCO - KM 104 TREK - AGUAS CALIENTES

DAY 4: CUSCO - KM 104 TREK - AGUAS CALIENTES
Beginning with an early train ride, the trek begins at the Km 104 checkpoint this morning. From here the trail leads up through the cloud forest towards the recently restored ruins of Chachabamaba and the base of Wiñay Wayna, from where a steep Incan staircase climbs on up to the famous Gateway of the Sun. Beyond this is Machu Picchu, in all its iconic glory. After admiring these spectacular views, you’ll then take a bus down to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where you spend the evening. (Inca Trail trek approx. 11km)
DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
The pinnacle of your journey (quite literally), today you return to the ruins to enjoy a guided tour of one of the world’s most spectacular archaeological wonders. Lost for centuries amongst the towering Andean peaks, this awe-inspiring World Heritage Site was rediscovered in 1911 by the explorer, Hiram Bingham. There will be time to enjoy some free time during your visit, as well as a chance to climb Huayna Picchu, after which you retrace your journey by train back down the Sacred Valley to Cusco.
DAY 6: CUSCO - APURIMAC CANYON

DAY 6: CUSCO - APURIMAC CANYON
A spectacular journey down to the river this morning takes you via a 4000-metre pass that offers up some breathtaking views towards the Vilcanota Mountains. Descending through the dramatic Apurimac Canyon, the road then continues down to the small community of Huallpachaca, where you meet up with your boats and your river guides. Then begins a thrilling ride through a series of grade II and III rapids, as you make your way towards your overnight camp beneath the towering canyon cliffs.
DAY 7: APURIMAC CANYON - CUSCO

DAY 7: APURIMAC CANYON - CUSCO
Following a hearty riverside breakfast, the adventure continues this morning as you return to the rapids. Negotiating a passage past huge boulders and through a series of challenges with names such as Trident, Batman’s Cave and The Last Laugh, your teamwork will be put to the test today, as you take on a river that has been held sacred since the times of the Incas. Eventually reaching a break in the canyon walls, you will be met by your vehicle and driven back to Cusco for the evening.
DAY 8: DEPART CUSCO

DAY 8: DEPART CUSCO
A free morning offers up more opportunities to enjoy the cultural and historic distractions of Cusco one last time, before you transfer to the airport later for your onward flight.
SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION
El Mapi By Inkaterra, Aguas Calientes
Part of the high-end Inkaterra chain, El Mapi is a comfortable and modern hotel located in the heart of Machu Picchu town. With 130 rooms, the hotel isn't small but certainly manages to create a boutique feeling. Rooms are contemporary and the white dccor is dotted with brown and green camouflage colours creating a fresh, tropical-inspired atmosphere and bringing the natural surroundings into the hotel. There are two categories of rooms, with the deluxe rooms offering extra space in the form of a separate living room. The hotel has a spa and hot tub looking out at the cloud forest engulfing the town. There is a good quality cafc-restaurant and bar serving mainly Peruvian cuisine, however the hotel is placed on one of the main pedestrian streets in town where a variety of dining options can be found practically at the hotel's doorstep. True to its Inkaterra nature, small touches such as a complimentary pisco sour and a la carte dinner on your first evening, as well as an early comprehensive buffet breakfast, make your stay that bit extra special.
Hotel Ananay Quinta San Blas, Cusco
The Quinta San Blas by Ananay is a charming boutique hotel in the bohemian San Blas neighbourhood of Cusco, housed in a renovated colonial building and surrounding an elegant central courtyard. The décor is a peaceful pairing of white walls and linens with calming blue and straw furnishings and a stylish blend of contemporary and chic, colonial-inspired furniture. With only 19 rooms the hotel feels intimate. The suites are especially spacious; however, as they are located at the front of the hotel on the main road, lighter sleepers are advised to request one of the quieter back rooms. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant but at just four blocks from the central plaza and being within walking distance to all of central Cusco’s highlights, there are plenty of dining options within easy reach.
Hotel Pakaritampu, Ollantaytambo
The three star Pakaritampu Ollantaytambo is named after the Quechua word ‘pakari’ meaning dawn and ‘tampu’ meaning home. The accommodation is located in the village of Ollantaytambo, within the heart of the Sacred Valley, allowing easy access to Cusco and Machu Picchu. The rooms are designed to reflect and embrace the natural surroundings with some having views of the Ollantaytambo Fortress. All rooms have 24 hour hot water, free Wi-Fi and a television, and the restaurant serves a blend of Novo Andean Native and international food like pizzas, barbecue, pachamanca and chicken cylinder.
Riverside Camp, Apurimac Canyon
This evening will be spent camping under the stars on a sandy river beach spot of the Apuri-mac River. Tonight’s accommodation includes a thick, full-length Thermarest per person and high-quality Eureka tents with a separate on-site toilet tent. All meals are included whilst camping which are prepared and served in the dining tent, equipped with a communal dining table and stools. In the evening you can enjoy a pisco sour to the sound of the river flowing past before heading off to bed. Nestled between striking, craggy mountains, there is no doubt that this impressive setting offers an idyllic way to watch the high Andean sun set behind the meandering cliffs you spent the day navigating.
