A memorable trip - from 1st arrival in Hanoi city and having to brave the myriads of scooters etc bearing down on you from all directions, then the facinating story of the Vietnamese victory over the French at Dien Bien Phu, mile after mile of breath-taking scenery with vast plains, sky-high mountains, terraced paddy-fields, finishing with arrival at Kunming (which I had never even heard of) with its wide dual-carriageways, countless skyscrapers and a population of 4.5 million! Unexpectedly wonderful. I'm now an expert with chopsticks and have experienced all kinds of dishes you'll never see at your local Chinese take-away (fried locusts for example - not compulsory, I should add, but an interesting experiment).
