I always like to visit Latin America, but Colombia is an undiscovered destination which adds an extra edge of the unknown to it. Highlights for me were the variety of landscapes and climates, from Caribbean tropical to temperate rain forest, jungle to high alpine/ arctic mountains. Incredible natural beauty and variety, particularly of plant life. The best Spanish colonial architecture I have seen. Friendly and helpful locals. The parts of Colombia I visited did not seem threatening or dangerous... bucking the stereotype most people have who have never been there.
