This astonishing tour took in valleys and mountains, city and country, past and present, sacred and secular, wine and spirits, near-desert and riotous fruitfulness – variety almost beyond belief. It was overwhelming to see so much in such a short space of time. Who knew that Georgia's fate has been entangled with so many empires? What does the future hold now that the country has so firmly renounced its Soviet past? The Wild Frontiers tour leader and the local guide who accompanied the group eliminated all practical problems and provided a constant flow of information. I am saving up to go back and see more!
