SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION
Kandy House, Kandy
Providing exclusivity and history amongst the hills of Kandy, Kandy House is a luxurious boutique property with only nine rooms. This was the home of the king's Chief Minister, Ratwatte Adigar, who betrayed his king to the British in the early 19th Century as Ceylon fell into colonial hands in 1815. The 200-year-old property has now been restored to include modern comforts, yet still retains Ratwatte family photos and antique furniture. The white interiors, polished hardwood floorboards, jack wood staircase and Dutch-style antique furniture all add to the historic setting. The freshwater pool in the garden provides an irresistible opportunity to unwind and relax under the shade of tropical trees while the restaurant veranda and Ayurvedic masseur provide an excuse to indulge.
Ceylon Tea Trails, Hatton
In solitude, at an elevation of 1220m above sea level, lies Ceylon Tea Trails. Five colonial era tea planters' bungalows boast a new and decidedly decadent vibe. Each accommodation, built between 1890 and 1939, offers a taste of gracious living thanks to butler service and authentic period furnishings, accompanied by gourmet meals. Each bungalow has a Manager, Chef, Butler and support staff to welcome guests as once was custom at a planter's home. Meals are based on fresh produce, cooked to order and range from western fare to tea infused dishes and, of course, traditional Sri Lankan classics. Scenic walking trails link the properties, which are from 5 to 15 km apart, offering views in all directions. Trekking or biking along the Tea Trails takes you through the heart of the magic Ceylon tea country.
Uga Ulagalla, Anuradhapura
Set amongst 58 lush acres bordering two ancient reservoirs, Uga Ulagalla is a wonderful accommodation option for exploring Anuradhapura and the rest of the Cultural Triangle. Renovated from a 150-year-old village chieftan mansion, the property's design is influenced by traditional Sri Lankan architecture and artistic flare, but with a modern twist. The 25 villas seamlessly blend into the surrounding forest and paddy fields and all feature private pools and living spaces. The organic paddy field provides fresh produce to the restaurant, serving national and international fusion cuisine. Authentic meals are served at the Kamatha restaurant, set within the paddy fields, using traditional food preparation equipment and cooking techniques. The property has also been a pioneer in responsible and sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka, producing a solar farm, organic gardens, and more., all of which you can learn about when staying here. Between activities, find the spa hidden within the lush foliage for a truly relaxing and pampering experience.
Maniumpathy House, Colombo
Maniumpathy is a stately heritage house ideally located in the heart of Colombo’s city centre, offering tranquility and style. The century-old house is made up of eight double rooms, each with its own unique design, antique furniture and fittings which boast luxurious heritage. Fort Bazaar, Galle
A short distance from Galle Fort, the Fort Bazaar hotel is a boutique property renovated from a 16th century Merchants home, taking nine years to restore! Once occupied by spice, tea and gem traders, you will feel transported back in time before you even begin to explore Galle Forts 300-year-old walls. The private central courtyard boasts the acclaimed Church Street Social restaurant and bar, library and Z Spa. Each of the eighteen beautifully designed bedrooms overlook the central courtyard and some even feature a private balcony or terrace. You will be looked after here with complimentary drinks in your room and during happy hour, as well as breakfast and afternoon tea and cookies.
Water Garden Resort, Sigiriya
Water Garden Sigiriya is an oasis of natural beauty in the heart of The Cultural Triangle, inspired by the ancient water gardens of Sigiriya. Expect luxury in a very open and natural setting with the mountainous Sigiriya Rock Fortress as your backdrop. With Sigiriya Rock Fortress as its backdrop, Water Garden Sigiriya hotel is a modern take on the 2,000 year old water garden found at the ancient ruins. Designed by renowned architect Channa Daswatte, this luxury hotel is as much about the views as it is the interiors. Spread across 35 acres, each villa has been carefully styled in keeping with its setting. There are 30 villas in total divided into three categories. The superior Deluxe Room and the Duplex Villas in particular are a perfect choice as they feature a private plunge pool. The Duplex Villa is ideal for larger groups or families. There are two dining options - the main restaurant and twin level bar, found either side of the main pool with views towards Sigiriya Rock.
