The waters of the Maldives are also home to an extraordinary array of marine life, from sea turtles to the majestic whale shark, and snorkelling or diving here is not to be missed. The accommodation meanwhile includes some of the most luxurious, ethical and innovative properties found anywhere on earth. As well as the resort islands, we can arrange visits to the communities who live on some of the other islands, even including a stay in a guesthouse to find out more about the culture of the Maldives.
This is the place to come to feel like you've stepped from the pages of a romantic novel, or been shipwrecked like Robinson Crusoe, or whatever cliché you choose to try and describe the islands' beauty.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MALDIVES
BEST EXPERIENCES

Go in search of the ‘big five’
The azure waters of the Maldives are home to an incredible array of colourful marine life. Although you’re likely to come across hundreds of different species during your snorkeling and diving adventures, make sure to look out for our favourite ‘big five’ - the manta ray, sea turtle, dolphin, lion fish, and of course, the majestic whale shark.

Hide away on a desert island
What could be more peaceful than a day spent in solitude with nothing but you and your own private little desert island. From a simple picnic basket to an indulgent camp built from scratch, choose your own castaway experience and completely disconnect from the outside world.

Support local communities
With local non-resort islands now open to tourists, you now have the chance to not only learn about the Maldivian culture and history in person, but you can also support local businesses and individuals directly, from buying local produce to meeting local artists and tradesmen.

Fluorescence or bioluminescence?
The big blue can be just as magical during the night as it is during the day. Find a quiet spot on the beach and watch the bioluminescent waves glow like a sea of stars. For those more adventurous explorers, dive into the night waters with a special UV torch to discover a stunning display of fluorescent colours emitted at night by various coral species.

Indulge yourself underwater
Ever wanted to enjoy delicious culinary delights surrounded by mesmerising marine life? Submerge yourself in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean as you dine underwater in one of the many luxury underwater restaurants, and why not take it a step further by enjoying a relaxing treatment in an underwater spa!

Explore on a traditional Dhoni
Cruise the turquoise waters on board a Dhoni, one of the oldest known traditional sea vessels used in the Maldives. Access untouched corners of this magical archipelago to enjoy uninterrupted snorkelling, or simply soak up the sunset views and sea breezes with a sundowner.

Spend your evenings stargazing
Situated just above the equator, the Maldives has access to both the northern and southern hemispheres’ night skies, offering some of the best stargazing in the world. For true astronomy enthusiasts, make sure to stay at the exclusive Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas, home to the world’s only overwater observatory.
