Our rating: Premium | Property style: Tented Camp

Found deep in the famed Mara North Conservancy, Kicheche Mara Camp boasts a Gold Ecotourism rating, so it is rightly regarded as one of the most ecologically friendly camps in Kenya. There are eight safari tents, including a family tent, all of which are spacious and comfortable with mosquito-proof gauze windows to allow a cooling breeze to blow through the tents during the day. The en-suite bathrooms have flush loos and bucket showers with hot water provided on request, although there is cold running water for the sinks. The rooms all have covered seating areas at the front which are great spots for afternoons with a good book. The main mess tent is the social hub of the lodge where guests can gather before game drives, to enjoy the superb food for which the camp is renowned and, in the evenings, to discuss their day’s adventures through the conservancy. Activities on offer include morning and afternoon game drives, guided bush walks, picnic lunches and sundowner drinks excursions. Visits to local Maasai villages, hot air balloon safaris and a visit to Mara Elephant Project are also possible at an additional cost.
