Sumaq, Aguas Calientes

The five-star Sumaq is an award-winning hotel, often quoted as the most high-end hotel in Aguas Calientes town. Just on the outskirts of town, a 10-minute walk from the train station, on the road leading to the ruins, the hotel is ideally placed away from the main nightlife street to allow for a good night’s sleep to really focus the stay on the star attraction, Machu Picchu. It is noted for its excellent standard of service and exquisite menu; the alpaca tenderloin and ceviche come highly recommended as does the tasting menu. Décor throughout the hotel is opulent with very spacious rooms, atypical of the small protected town; stylish contemporary furniture; and five-star amenities fit for Inca royalty. Rooms either have river views or garden views and some higher category rooms have terraces and jacuzzis. Facilities also include a spa with treatment rooms and a glass fronted bar with views out to the river. The shuttle bus to Machu Picchu conveniently stops outside the hotel, so you don’t need to walk to the town to catch it, and all luggage is transported to and from the train station by the hotel.
