Dahabiya, Dahabiya Cruise

Dahabiyas and sandals are traditional passenger boats used on the River Nile in Egypt. The term is normally used to describe a shallow-bottomed, barge-like vessel with two or more sails*. The vessels are very similar indeed, with the sandal being a smaller version of the dahabiya. The boats are clean and comfortable and allow for an exclusive means of travel, but if you are expecting a luxury cruise this may not be for you. Meals are prepared on board by the crew and it’s a constant source of amazement how they manage to prepare such feasts in a relatively small galley! All bedrooms are en suite but please note double beds are limited. If you have a sense of adventure and want to see some of the best sites along the river Nile, as well as a few less visited places, then this is the trip for you. *Please note that the boat will be pulled by a tug boat when winds are not strong enough to sail.
