A journey through some of Peru’s lesser travelled regions, this 15 day adventure takes you off the beaten track and deep into the heart of the tribal lands of the Moche and Chimu. Before the Inca conquest, Northern Peru was home to a fascinating cultural heritage that has long been overshadowed by the more famous Inca ruins to south, but these cultures provided us with some of the most spectacular pre-Columbian remains in Latin America.
You’ll fly first to Trujillo, once the heartland of the Moche civilisation, where you will pay a visit to the impressive Temples of the Sun and Moon. Then head to Chicama and see the impressive pyramids of El Brujo, the site of many shamanistic rituals. As you continue to Utcubamba Valley, you will uncover the ruins of Yalape, Túcume and Sipan and their impressive relics. Driving through deserts and mountains, you will finally reach the Utcubamba Valley, where you will discover the ancient burial rituals, leaving the landscape dotted with mummies and sarcophagi.
The next stage of your adventure takes you to Iquitos, the gateway to the Amazon. After spending a night here, you will be take not your lodge near Pacaya Samiria National Reserve for a few days of rainforest hiking, piranha fishing, river cruises and cultural visits.
