Cultural Sensitivity

On our tours, we frequently interact with local people, each with their own distinct customs and traditions.

The US is a very culturally diverse nation, but practising general respect, consideration and manners will suffice in most situations. If an activity calls for anything more specific, our guides will be able to advise you accordingly.

Language & Religion

The de facto official, and most widely spoken language, is English, but in the bigger cities you could hear more than 300 languages spoken!

There is  no official religion in the US . It is often described as multi-faith, with the next most practised religions after Christianity being Islam, Hinduism, Judaism and Buddism, and a large number of individuals claiming to have nominal or no religious affiliations.

Given the size of the US, it is split into 6 different time zones, with Eastern Standard Time being -4 GMT and Pacific Standard Time being -8 GMT, but also utilising daylight savings of GMT+1. A useful website to check the time zone differences is www.worldtimezone.com.

Food and drink

American cuisine is a true reflection of the history of the United States and boasts foods from all around the world. Often associated with fried and greasy food, not to mention extra large portions, the US also offers an incredible array of global cuisine as you travel from state to state.

Southern food has a long history and encompasses a diverse range of regions, cultures and techniques, many of which were based purely on survival and preservation methods. While there are many influences to consider, the three main ones are Native American, West African and European.
