Mozambique offers perhaps the best beach riding in the world, around Vilanculos it is possible to ride for miles along white sandy beaches with spectacular views across the Archipelago while splashing through the shallow waters of the Indian Ocean, with just a few local fishermen for company.
The town of Vilanculos is situated on the coast of the Mozambique mainland, 750km north of the capital Maputo and is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago, which is one of Mozambique’s true gems with white sandy beaches, tropical islands, rich marine life and extensive coral reefs. The town of Vilanculos retains its traditional African feel with the added dimension of the Portuguese influence.
The coastline is dotted with fishing boats and dhows and there are a number of restaurants along the coastline, which are perfect for stopping off at for some lunch to break up the ride – there’s no better feeling than riding straight to the restaurant door, tying your horse up and popping in for fresh crab and a cold glass of Vinho Verde.
It's not just about beaches in Mozambique - soak up some culture at the ancient Portugese cities of Ibo Island & Ihla Do Mozamibique.
