Embark on a tour of the geological and historic wonders surrounding Oaxaca. Accompany us to the small village of San Antonio Arrazola, which is internationally known for its imaginative wood carvings. It was in 1936 when Pedro Linares, inspired by a dream, started producing colourful animal figures of papier-mâché, which he called alebrijes. This folk art is now known throughout the world. Between Oaxaca and Mitla lies the peaceful village of Santa María del Tule. Next to the small church in the centre of the village, you visit the enormous ahuehuete tree, which has grown more than 36.2 m [119 ft.] round during its about 2,000 years’ lifetime. The tour will also visit the ancient tree of Tule, a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site that enjoys the reputation of having the stoutest trunk of any tree on earth.
