Day 1: Our journey begins in Tbilisi, Georgia’s historic capital. For those arriving late evening on the group flights we will be transferred straight to our hotel on arrival. For anyone arriving earlier, rooms will be available from early afternoon.
Day 2: Today we head out on a tour of some of Tbilisi’s highlights, visiting the Metekhi Church and the imposing 4th century ruins of the Narikala Fortress, before enjoying dinner at one of the city’s best restaurants.
Day 3: Another day in Tbilisi will allow us to explore more of the sites and culinary delights of the capital, before a special dinner at a local restaurant which will be hosted by a traditional Georgian toastmaster and accompanied by local musicians.
Day 4: Today we travel into the famous wine-growing region of Kakheti and learn how the clay jars called “Qvevri” are made. We continue on with a visit to Ikalto Monastery and the 11th-century cathedral at Alaverdi, before reaching Sighnaghi for the evening.
Day 5: This morning we will explore Sighnaghi and its surroundings, as well as enjoy a visit to the sprawling Bodbiskhevi Market, Eastern Georgia’s largest market. Finish the day with a cooking masterclass and dinner with Carla and one of our local hosts.
Day 6: Today we visit the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia - Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continuing along the steep Georgian Military Highway we complete the journey high up at Stepantsminda, in the heart of the Caucasus mountains.
Day 7: This morning we walk up through the beautiful valley woodlands to the Gergeti Trinity Church, nestled beneath Mt. Kazbegi. Returning to town for a rest we will then enjoy a delicious dinner and cooking demo with a local family.
Day 8: Driving back to the capital today, we’ll stop off en route to visit the castle complex of Ananuri, as well as the country’s impressive Wine Institute. This evening we then will enjoy our final traditional Georgian dinner.
Day 9: The tour will end at the hotel after breakfast.
