Excellent standards without the big price tag
Our rating: Premium | Property style: Lodge
One of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World, the Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel is your base for exploring the Galapagos, whether you are island hopping or taking a cruise. Located on the beachfront of southern Santa Cruz Island, the four-star eco-hotel offers rooms and suites with a neutral palette to match the natural and peaceful setting. With just 27 rooms (6 are beachfront) and its own private beach, it provides an intimate and relaxing option in town. Ocean views are provided in some rooms, but the best views come from the wooden walkways which wind through the Galapagos greenery. The restaurant uses only fresh and sustainable ingredients for its Ecuadorian and international dishes. Only a few steps from the lodge are the waters of the Pacific Ocean and mangrove forests making snorkelling and surfing excursions easy to organise independently. The excursions arranged by the hotel however are top-notch as they have their own yacht, diving equipment and expert guides allowing you to make the most of these incredible islands without venturing too far from the hotel. Other activities include cycling and hiking.

Galapagos Magic
Set in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, the property feels a million miles from civilisation and the rest of the island's visitors. The unique camp consists of four treehouses and six raised, canvas tents, each with comfortable living quarters, views of the remote wilderness, and a private ensuite bathroom with hot water. This eco-lodging camp also features a subterranean dining room, a ''Lava Lounge' bar and a wonderful fire that guests can share stories around in the main building. There is Wi-Fi access on the grounds, which are littered with endemic giant tortoises.

Ikala
The newer Ikala Hotel was built with a focus on sustainability and protecting the environment, featuring modern designs and furnishings. The hotel is centrally located near the pier and the main streets’ restaurants but does well to create a small haven protected from the strong Galapagos sun by the surrounding trees and pretty gardens. The hotel has 22 rooms and one split-level suite with a living room and kitchen. The property is solar powered and has a lovely swimming pool, bar area and a roof-top terrace with incredible views of Puerto Ayora harbour, where you can find the restaurant and resting area. Guests have free use of bikes to navigate the town.
