During the cruise you will explore a dazzling continent of snow and ice where miles of ice, 2,000 metres thick, and giant tabular icebergs share this breathless landscape with mighty whales, giant albatross and thousands of penguins.
Departing from the port of Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the South American mainland, you’ll sail down the Beagle Channel and across the notorious Drake Passage, one of the most infamous waterways in the world. Accompanied along the way by an inquisitive array of seabirds, the journey takes you on towards the vast expanse of the Antarctic Peninsula where you will be able to enjoy the full majesty of the setting with daily excursions by zodiac boats.
You’ll encounter giant icebergs, breeding colonies of seemingly limitless penguins, Antarctic fur seals, whales and a baffling wealth of seabirds. To add to the wonder of what you see there will be daily lectures on board from the resident experts.

DAY 1: USHUAIA

Boarding your Antarctic cruise in Ushuaia today, you'll have an opportunity to get familiar with the ship before departing the city early this evening. Departing the southernmost tip of the South American continent, you'll then sail through the famous waters of the Beagle Channel en route to the vast white expanse of Antarctica, “The Great White Continent”.
DAY 2: DRAKE PASSAGE

Over the next two days you'll negotiate one of the most infamous stretches of water in the southern oceans. The crossing of the Drake Passage provides an ideal opportunity to learn more about the fascinating nature of the remote landscapes that lie to the south, with a series of informative lectures from your expert guides. Arriving at the Antarctic Convergence, the temperatures drop appreciatively as you enter the colder waters of the Antarctic Ocean. Ahead lie spectacular icebergs, seabirds and, hopefully, the occasional breaching whale.

Attend informative lectures and settle into the expedition cruise lifestyle as you continue across the Drake Passage.

Over the coming days you'll experience some of the most inspiring scenery imaginable as you explore the icy waters by zodiac and marvel at the sheer majesty of Antarctica. On Half Moon Island you'll observe breeding colonies of chinstrap penguins and fur seals, you'll cruise past colossal tabular icebergs and there is every chance of seeing orcas and humpbacks. On the peninsula itself you have the opportunity to set foot on the ice shelf and camp overnight, like the explorers of yesteryear.

The journey north takes you back across the open waters of Drake Passage, presenting the perfect time to reflect on the highlights of this incredible voyage with your crew and fellow passengers. Keep an eye out from the observation deck for some last-minute whale sightings as you head back towards Cape Horn and celebrate the conclusion of the voyage with a special dinner.

Savour the memories of your voyage on your last day returning to Ushuaia.

Disembark in Ushuaia early this morning and transfer to the airport for the flight to Buenos Aires.

Akademik Ioffe
Originally built in 1989 as a research vessel for Russia's Academy of Science, the Akademic Ioffe is now a luxury cruise ship used for exploring the Polar Regions. The ice-breaker is fully equipped for Polar discovery with zodiacs, kayaks and camping gear on board. Akademik Ioffe carries a maximum of just 96 guests so that time ashore is not compromised. When guests return from their excursions they have the option of relaxing in the dining room, bar, library or lounge area. After a long day in the Arctic/Antarctic, guests prefer nothing more than to unwind in the hot water spa, sauna and massage room. Guests can stay in six cabin categories, ranging from semi-private rooms to luxurious Suites. All categories feature a window, writing desk, chair and storage and guests can choose from private to semi-private options. Twin semi-private cabins share bathroom facilities with the adjacent cabin but also feature a bookshelf and convertible sofa bed. Triple cabins feature bunk beds, shared bathroom, portholes and a washbasin in the cabin. Upgrade to The Shackleton Suites, two lavish and spacious rooms have the added luxury of a private bathroom, upgraded linens, capsule coffee maker, mini stereo, mini bar and iPod loaded with region specific material. The One Ocean Suite tops it all off with an additional bathtub, armchairs and large, forward facing picture windows.
