Q: How did you fall into tour leading?
A: During a stopover in Istanbul, a few people accompanied me in the old town, where I spoke about the city. These people had originally planned to stay in the airport. It was at this point that I knew tour leading was what I wanted to do, especially when I saw how excited they were of our little adventure, and how much they enjoyed my stories.
Q: What do you like most about tour leading?
A: I love having responsibility of a group, and the trust I get back.
Q: Where is your favourite part of the world?
A: The part of the world that has been fascinating to me so far is Central Asia, but I’m sure South America would be amazing too.
Q: What was your biggest travel highlight?
A: Getting off the beaten track somewhere in India, where I discovered some temples in an unknown place, free of tourists.
Q: What’s the craziest request you’ve ever had from a client?
A: One man asked me to find him a young nice gipsy girl for him to marry!
Q: What’s the one thing you couldn’t travel without?
A: Besides clothes and money (I cannot do without!), I would not leave without my mobile phone - it can get you out of many sticky situations.
Q: Which famous person would you most like to travel with?
A: I would most like to travel with Meryl Streep.
Q: Have you ever made a cultural faux pas?
A: Yes, in Romania, my homeland. I always forget to take off my shoes when I go on a visit to someone’s home, and it is absolutely necessary to do that.
