Q: How did you fall into tour leading?

A: I fell into tour leading thanks to my best friend - my dad. He always knew me best, and after a long conversation with him, I went to University to study tourism. I have loved my career since the very beginning.

Q: What do you like most about tour leading?

A: I love meeting new people and showing them the amazing places Ecuador has to offer.

Q: Where is your favourite part of the world?

A: Besides my country (which I think is the most beautiful country in the world!), I love North America and the Bahamas – I had an amazing time there with my family.

Q: What was your biggest travel highlight?

A: When I had the opportunity to see a real bear in South America, in the cloud forest.

Q: What’s the craziest request you've ever had from a client?

A: When an elderly lady couldn't walk very well, she wanted to go to the Caldera of Sierra Negra Volcano at Isabela Island in the Galapagos. The hike took us almost two hours, but we did it.

Q: What’s the one thing you couldn't travel without?

A: Besides my national tour guiding licence, I can't leave my house without a picture in my wallet of my beautiful son - Ismael.

Q: Which famous person would you most like to travel with?

A: There are many people I would like to travel with, but my favourite would be the actor Leo DiCaprio, because he loves mother nature and works hard to protect it.

Q: Have you ever made a cultural faux pas?

A: After 12 years of guiding, there are several - one of them is when I met my first group of tourists from the UK and we were at the main square in Quito. One of them asked for the loo and I understood ‘lap’, so we were walking around the square doing laps for 5 minutes until they told me – “David, we have been here 4 times - where is the BATHROOM?!!!!”. It was so embarrassing, but everyone laughed!
