Manoj

Manoj started his tourism career in 1994 when he joined Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies for his Tourism Management Diploma. Manoj was closely associated with the Kerala Government Tourist Office, working with them as an Information Assistant for Tourists. After his tourism course, Manoj joined the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation as an Information Assistant/Guide. Manoj then began freelancing as a Tourist Guide and in 2001-2002 he received the Best Tourist Guide award from Kerala State. Manoj has worked with several journalists from the National Geographic, BBC, Discovery Channel, Conde Nast Traveller and Travel and Leisure. Every year, from August to March Manoj works as a Tour Guide and for the rest of the time he engages in photography and graphic design work.

Q: How did you fall into tour leading?

A: I was working for the government as a Tourist Information Officer. I found travelling more interesting than office work so I started freelancing as a tour guide/manager.

Q: What do you like most about tour leading?

A: Interaction and travel.

Q: Where is your favourite part of the world?

A: Bhutan! I love that part of the world.

Q: What has been your biggest travel highlight?

A: Every day is exciting!

Q: What’s the one thing you couldn’t travel without?

A: My camera.

Q: Which famous person would you most like to travel with?

A: Barack Obama.
