For anybody who is looking for a really good break away within the UK with fresh air, extraordinary landscapes and a wonderful place to stay, I couldn't recommend more highly the new trip that Wild Frontiers has put together for a week in the Highlands staying at the Alladale Wilderness Reserve. As ever this trip by Wild Frontiers is well orchestrated. There is a comfortable lodge with outstanding views plus Ghillies Rest close by (where I stayed) which also has an extraordinary outlook and is extremely comfortable. We were whistled from Inverness Airport to Alladale (just an hour and a half away) and were there for the week. Each day we would go on some spectacular walks and were lucky enough to see a golden eagle, a plethora of wildlife, interesting flora (including wild orchids), salmon leaping by a waterfall and some curious Highland cattle, topped only by three stags turning up at the front door after breakfast one morning. It would also be of interest to environmentalists with vegetables grown using aquaponics. If you enjoy the big outdoors, amazing views, watching wildlife go about their everyday lives with excellent food and a comfortable place to stay too this is the trip for you. The rangers were also a fund of interesting information, took us on some good hikes and were knowledgeable about the land and the history of Alladale. Look out for it on our TV screens next year too! It was recently visited by a well respected presenter who will be including it in a series to come.
