I originally became interested in Northern Ethiopia through a Rotary charity operation for eye surgery that I had helped organise. I wanted to see the places and buildings for myself and to bring to life the books I had read. (The Barefoot Emperor, The Pale Abyssinian ) The trip itinerary was ideal as the circuit takes in the major elements. The wonderful cheerful and characterful people we met were a brilliant bonus !
