It was the local people that were the highlight of this tour, from children offering us crisps from their packed lunches to ladies in chadors personally walking up and welcoming us to Iran.

What makes Iran special are the local people who are some of the most hospitable on the planet. Expect to be whisked away to share a picnic or a cup of tea or to discuss the premier league. These are the memories that will stay with me.

A truly excellent tour with great restaurants, delicious food and excellent accommodation in Isfahan and Yazd.

The tour leader was excellent and he never seemed to stop working, whether it was finding a Zurkhaneh that had no tourists or arranging a talk with a trainee mullah at one of Iran’s spectacular Mosques.
