I booked this trip to explore a little visited part of the world that I have long had an interest in, and it did not disappoint. In 40 years of travel all over the world I have never seen so many amazing sites in such a short period of time and I feel that not only have I been to the end but also off the edge of the map. As for the highlights… Erta Ale – standing on top of the top of the volcano next to the crater was truly amazing and is one of the highlights of my travelling career dating back to 1975 as was Lake Abbe – the other worldly landscapes in the early morning light – and Dallol – seeing the the almost endless line of camels crossing to and from the salt pans and the colourful sulphur pools and geysers.
