This was just a fab holiday. I am not mad about tramping over hills but it was not onerous and quite something to be trekking at well over 3000m. One got a great sense of being in a remote part of the world with the Russian border nearby and the Chechen mountains in the far distance. Just make sure you take a proper sleeping bag and not a 1970s one borrowed from one's aunt. The resort we stayed in for the couple of nights beforehand (in Kazbek) was an unexpected treat. As for the rest of the country, it was not the sleepy ex-Soviet backwater I expected. Go and see it.
