A truly magical wilderness area, the vast Selous Game Reserve occupies over 50,000 square kilometres of Southern Tanzania and offers a wonderful game viewing experience for first-timers and old hands alike. One of the principal advantages of a visit to Selous is that it is a game reserve as opposed to a National Park, fewer restrictions exist on the activities that can be enjoyed. Guided walks, boat safaris, night drives and off-road driving can all be enjoyed here, which means a more rounded and intimate safari experience. The game viewing is excellent, with lion, leopard, elephant and wild dog often spotted as well as a big variety of plains game. Lodges are well spread from one another so there is a wonderful feeling of privacy when visiting Selous.

Spot wild dogs and elephants
Selous National Park is perfect to do some wild dog and elephant spotting. Due to poaching, the elephant numbers have decreased dramatically in recent years, but they can still be spotted grazing at certain times and wild dogs can be tracked with your guide.
Try to spot some local bird life
Bird watchers will feel right at home in Selous National Park with over 400 species of bird including eagles, yellow-billed stork, trumpeter hornbill and kingfishers just to name a few. Your birding guide will be there to help you spot and identify the birds.
