Best experiences

Explore the Fan Mountains
Setting off from your homestay on foot, you’ll walk down to the glistening Iskandar Kol lake to spend the day within the breathtaking scenery of the Fan Mountains, closed off to vehicles. Iskandar Kol (2,200m) is named for Alexander the Great who, it is said, passed by here on his travels. Hike around the lake's borders and some of the surrounding natural majesty including the Five Springs, eventually following the Snake Lake Trail that tracks alongside icy waters flanked by rocky mountains either side of it leading to the Fan Mountain’s ‘Niagara Waterfall’. Returning toyourhomestay for lunch, you can take the afternoon to relax after your active morning, perhaps making use of the ‘banya’ (a Russian-style sauna) in the village, or continue hiking and exploring the area's unspoilt nature.
Experience rural Tajik life
Always warm and inviting, local families in the area open their homes for the occasional foreign visitor. Try some delicious local dishes, washed down with milky tea and a shot or two of vodka, all the while fully embracing the warmth of Tajik hospitality.
