DAY 1: ARRIVE CUSCO

DAY 1: ARRIVE CUSCO

Your journey begins in the captivating city of Cusco, considered by many to be the archaeological capital of the Americas. One of the oldest inhabited cities on the continent, it provides the backdrop today for a privately guided tour of your own choosing. After transferring from the airport and freshening up at the hotel, visit the impressive colonial grandeur of the Plaza de Armas, wander through the city’s bustling markets or gaze across the red tiled rooftops from San Cristobal Church. The day also includes lunch in a beautifully converted colonial building just off the main square.

The day is divided between a gloriously scenic electric bike tour through the Andean countryside around Cusco and a cooking lesson and market visit with a local Peruvian chef. Suitable for all experiences, the bike tour can be tailored to suit you and will include the Inca ruins of Tambo Machay, Puca Pucara and Sacsayhuaman. The other half of the day has then been set aside to learn from experts how to source, prepare and make the perfect Peruvian dish.

A day biking through the timeless scenery of the Sacred Valley begins at Tika Tika, on the outskirts of Cusco. Enjoying views out across the Anta Valley and on towards the surrounding mountains, you’ll begin riding through a landscape dotted with rural villages as you make your way initially towards the emerald green waters of Lake Piuray and the Inca town of Chinchero.  A scenic picnic lunch at Lake Huaypo is then followed by a largely downhill trail towards the salt pans of Maras and on towards Ollantaytambo.
