SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION
La Casona Inkaterra, Cusco
La Casona Inkaterra is an exquisite, private Relais and Chateaux 16th Century mansion just a block from the main Plaza de Armas with a small and peaceful plaza in front of it. With just 11 suites over 3 different categories, the hotel offers the most personalised and high-end service available in Cusco. The hotel has been carefully restored to maintain its historical heritage offering contemporary luxury, without sacrificing authenticity. Check in is completed in the guest rooms, which are spacious and elegantly decorated with colonial-style furnishings. All of the bathrooms are marble and have a free-standing bath and separate shower, the suites have honesty bars, a complimentary mini bar, LCD TV and DVD player; DVDs are available to borrow at reception. There is just a small dining area, and breakfast and afternoon tea is complimentary. While there isn't a bar as such, guests can order drinks and snacks from any staff member, anywhere in the hotel. This is a stylish, traditional property offering personalised service and beautiful rooms, however availability is often hard to come by so it is worth booking months in advance.
Pueblo Inkaterra Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes
The Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo hotel is a sprawling village of Andean casitas on the edge of Aguas Calientes town with a special entrance over a small bridge from the main road into town. It has been named as one of National Geographic's Unique Lodges of the World. The hotel has 85 casitas and 2 villas, all beautifully decorated with rustic furniture and traditional upholstery and furnishings. One of the highlights of the hotel is the complimentary tours offered within its large grounds such as bird watching, nature walks, a twilight walk and a visit to the orchid garden which houses a large species collection. Guests are also welcomed to participate in the hotel's Spectacled Bear Project. There are two onsite restaurants: the Cafc Inkaterra, a public restaurant regarded as one of the town's most high-end, perched above the river; and the main guest dining room central to the hotel building. The former is well known and can become busy. Breakfast and a dinner are included during your stay. The hotel also has a spa and 'ponds' in the gardens, which are essentially small plunge pools.
Sol y Luna Lodge and Spa, Sacred Valley
The Relais & Châteaux, Sol y Luna property is a rustic yet luxurious hotel with 38 spacious and beautifully decorated suites and bungalows, spread amongst the manicured grounds of the hotel. The casitas each have a living room, separate bedroom, walk-in closet and marble tiled bathroom; some even have a Jacuzzi on the terrace. The split-level bungalows are very spacious and colourful, reflective of the bright flowers in the surrounding gardens, and are perfect for families. The owner is very involved in local community development and there is an onsite boutique shop selling locally-made handicrafts and the like. The main building houses the Killa Wasi restaurant with mezzanine bar and a pool on the terrace outside. Much like the hotel, the restaurant has a formidable reputation of being one of the best in the area, but by no means is pretentious. There is also a fantastic spa on the property and horses’ stables, as the hotel keeps its own Peruvian horses and even puts on a show most days at the ‘Rancha’. The Sol y Luna is a delightful place to stay offering tranquillity, positivity, luxury and quality.
Hotel B, Lima
Hotel B is our favourite boutique four star hotel option in Lima. Situated in Barranco – the beating heart of the city’s art scene – modern art adorns the walls of this stylish property. Formerly a colonial home for president Leguia (1920’s), the building has been elegantly refurbished with contemporary rooms either side of a pleasant courtyard, where breakfast is served. There is a bar and superb restaurant which blends traditional Peruvian ingredients with Mediterranean flavours. There are plenty of galleries and shopping opportunities nearby, as well as access to the beach. This beautiful property is a great experience for any special occasions such as anniversaries, honeymoon or birthdays.
Titilaka, Puno
The five star Titilaka is by far the most luxurious way of experiencing Lake Titicaca. This is an exclusive lodge situated on a secluded part of the lake with 18 ‘dusk’ or ‘dawn’ suites boasting spectacular views and modern touches such as heated floors and I-pod docks. There is a wonderful spa and intimate dining room, or you can choose to dine in the privacy of your own room. All excursions are included and the options are varied – from mountain biking to kayaking, trekking to bird-watching, or simply take in the sunset on the lakeside terrace with a cocktail.
Delfin II, Iquitos
The Delfin II is built in the style of a classic Amazon River vessel. The vessel is purpose built for cruising the Amazon and on its four and five-day itineraries, visits the pristine Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve which is one of the best areas for wildlife viewing in Peru's northern Amazon region. There are fourteen suite cabins in total spread over two decks, each with private bathroom, wood panelling, shower, two open closets and air-conditioning units with remote control. Six standard suites are twin bedded and four have king size beds. The standard suites are side facing with panoramic windows. At the front of each deck there are two Master Suites with king size beds and panoramic windows affording side and forward views from the boat.
