This is an example itinerary. Our experts have all travelled widely in the region and will be happy to tailor any of our itineraries to suit your tastes and budget, or build a trip from scratch.

Day 1 ARRIVE WINDHOEK

Arriving in Windhoek today you will be met at the airport and transferred on to your overnight guesthouse for a chance to relax from the overnight flight and prepare yourself for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 WINDHOEK - SOSSUSVLEI

After taking delivery of your rental car at the hotel this morning, you will then set off heading west towards the surreal landscapes of Sossusvlei. Travelling through the scenic Khomashochland Hills and over the Spreetshoogte Pass, the landscape changes dramatically as you leave the rolling farmland behind and enter the arid red sands of the Namib Desert. Arriving this afternoon affords plenty of opportunity to freshen up and relax before an al fresco dinner beneath the stars.

Day 3 EXPLORE SOSSUSVLEI

An early start and a quick bite this morning provides the chance to reach Sossusvlei in time to enjoy a breathtaking sunrise across the towering dunes. Though strenuous, the walk to the top of the dunes provides some stunning views out to the surrounding desert. And after getting those postcard pictures, you will return to the lodge to enjoy a hearty breakfast a bit of rest after your early morning.

Day 4 SOSSUSVLEI - SWAKOPMUND

Another early start sees you setting off along the Namibian coast this morning towards the delightful town of Swakopmund and the waters of Walvis Bay. Arriving in time for lunch, you should have ample time this afternoon to explore a little of this quaint German town with its unique mix of Bavarian charm and African colour.

Day 5 EXPLORE SWAKOPMUND

Swakopmund provides a choice of exciting activities today including a chance to join a full day catamaran cruise through the waters of Sandwich Harbour. Here, against the stunning backdrop of the dunes of the Namib Naukluft National Park which stretch right down to the shores of the bay, you can look out for seals, flamingos and dolphins. Later you will be able to make the most of Swakopmund's rich culinary heritage with dinner at one of the town's excellent restaurants.

Day 6 SWAKOPMUND - TWYFELFONTEIN

Departing early from Swakopmund you'll journey through the Brandberg Mountains and along the dramatic Atlantic Coast this morning towards the startling landscapes of Twyfelfontein. The drive should get you to the lodge in time for a late lunch and a chance to spend the afternoon enjoying the delights of the camp and the stark panoramas for which this region is famed.

Day 7 EXPLORE TWYFELFONTEIN

Dating back over 2,000 years, Twyfelfontein (Doubtful Fountain), is home to one of the richest collections of rock art in Africa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this remarkable region contains a treasure trove of stone-age engravings and ancient bushman artwork. Set amongst towering geological formations and depicting a fascinating assortment of elephants, giraffe, rhino, hunters and bizarrely, seals and penguins, it provides incredible insight into the lives of the ancient San bushmen who once lived here.

Day 8 TWYFELFONTEIN - DAMARALAND

Continuing on towards the edge of Damaraland's Palmwag Concession this morning, the next leg of the journey takes you into some of the most pristine wilderness in Namibia. The perfect base from which to explore this beautiful setting, the short drive means that you will have plenty of time to enjoy an early lunch before heading out to explore the reserve. Options include a chance to visit one of the local villages or perhaps enjoy an afternoon nature drive and sundowners overlooking the park.

Day 9 EXPLORE DAMARALAND

You have another full day here to make the most of this incredible setting. In spite of its apparently barren appearance, this region is rich in animal and plant life and one of the highlights of any visit is a chance to track rhino on foot. In the company of a highly experienced guide, you will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with these rare and majestic creatures, learning more about their lives and the work being done to protect them.

Day 10 DAMARALAND - ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

A long drive today will bring to you one of the highlights of your journey, the vast game-lands of Etosha National Park. One of southern Africa's most expansive game reserves, Etosha can boast an incredible diversity of wildlife that includes some 340 species of birds and over 100 species of animals. There will be plenty of opportunities en route for spotting game and enjoying a picnic lunch, before arriving at your lodge in the southern part of the park later this afternoon.

Day 11 EXPLORE ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

Etosha is home to large herds of elephants, as well as black rhino and healthy numbers of lions and black-backed jackals. Spend the day driving across Etosha National Park from the southern boundary of the park to the eastern Von Lindquist gate. You have plenty of time to explore the network of waterholes and looped drives along the main park road. Settle into your lodge for a free afternoon and evening.

Day 12 EXPLORE ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

Your time here is free to enjoy as you please, with an excellent network of roads linking up the best game viewing areas. Driving yourself through Etosha today affords the ideal opportunity to take in the park's incredible diversity at your own pace. Alternatively, you may prefer to spend your last day here on a guided game drive. Either way, you can be assured of a magical game viewing experience in the endless salt pans that characterise this extraordinary setting. Returning to the lodge later, you will enjoy a farewell dinner beneath the stars.

Day 13 ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK - OKONJIMA

A final morning affords an opportunity to enjoy the sunrise and a last game drive in Etosha before beginning the journey back south towards the Central Highlands. You will have free time before enjoying a sundowner whilst reflecting over your self-drive adventure in Namibia coming to an end.

Day 14 OKONJIMA RESERVE - WINDHOEK

Drive back to Windhoek today, which takes approximately an hour, to drop off your hire car at the airport before catching your onward flight where your tour ends.
