Jehan Numa Palace, Bhopal

Jehan Numa Palace

Premium

Excellent standards without the big price tag

Our rating: Premium | Property style: Traditional Accommodation

Built in 1890 by the Nawab's second son, Obaidullah Khan, commander-in-chief of the Bhopal state forces, this former royal palace is pretty much what you would expect of a converted heritage hotel. Elegant architecture and character with pretty gardens and walkways. There is even a rather surreal horse track running around an extension of the complex. There are 100 well equipped rooms, split into various categories, and it's probably worth going for one of the higher levels, such as the regal and imperial rooms or suites which are only slightly more expensive but much nicer. There is a nice swimming pool, a modern gym, small spa, charming coffee shop and three restaurants, one of which, the Indian restaurant ‘Under The Mango Tree’, is actually rather good.

Jehan Numa Retreat, Bhopal

The Jehan Numa Retreat is a charming retreat within the outskirts of Bhopal city, tucked away in an evergreen jungle of Van Vihar. It is the sister hotel of Reni Pani Jungle Lodge, It is a wonderfully designed retreat lodge, elegant aesthetics, mud-caked walls and an ethnic design. The hotel combines deep wooden materials with a slick modern design and blended with traditional lodge layout. It has all the modern amenities, a lovely pool, a well-equipped spa and fitness centre. Comprising of 28 en-suite rooms in 6 residential clusters, each one has spacious bathrooms, a private seating area and a sit out deck, separated by tall standing local plants and overlooking the gardens. All the rooms are equipped with Wi-fi. This retreat has two restaurants offering delicious organic food, all locally procured and gown in the organic kitchen gardens.

Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, Bhopal

This property is another of Bhopal's converted palaces, that sits on a hill slightly out of the centre offering commanding views of the city and her lakes. Spread over 18 acres of lush green gardens, it was built in the 1920s and offers a reasonably comfortable place to stay. It has over 100 rooms and suites, split into five categories all equipped with modern amenities, a fine swimming pool, a small spa and basic gym. The only thing we would say is that the service here has something of an iffy reputation, as does the restaurant's cuisine, and the hotel itself rather flatters to deliver. Although not a bad option if the other hotels are full, one other thing to bear in mind the hotel does not serve or allow alcohol on its premises.
