At Wild Frontiers we believe it’s important to see these iconic sights, but we also like to offer travellers a sense of the true India. So on our India holidays, we also venture off the beaten track to stay in rural villages, where you can connect with the locals and make memories that will last a lifetime.
It's hard to imagine a more exciting, exhilarating, romantic or exotic destination than India. A land of matchless superlatives, the largest country in the subcontinent shares its borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. A vast expanse of colour and tradition, India practically groans under the weight of its historical and cultural pedigree. The seventh largest country in the world and the largest democracy on earth, its landscapes are alive with a seemingly impossible richness of people, religions, traditions and scenery.
For the inquisitive and the enquiring, it is a land simply not to be missed. As one traveller put it: 'It's the only place on the planet where everything that has ever happened in the history of the world is happening every minute of every day right under your nose!' A slight exaggeration possibly…but not by much! The beautiful landscapes of Kashmir are a particular favourite of ours, having operated there for over ten years, but from the foothills of the Himalayas, to the shores of the Indian Ocean, India is a land of remarkable diversity. And with a cultural history that spans over 4,500 years, its art, architecture and literature is amongst the oldest and finest anywhere in the world.

INDIA DESTINATION GUIDE
Kashmir & The Himalayas
Kashmir & The Himalayas
The Himalayas is the world's mightiest mountain range. No other chain can boast summits of over 8,000 metres - there are 14 such peaks in the Greater Himalaya - and hundreds over 7,000 metres. It stretches 2,700km across the subcontinent from Assam to Pakistan; in the east, Namche Barwa stands sentinel, while the west is guarded by the awesome Nanga Parbat. The term Himalaya means 'Abode of Snow' and its icy peaks and ridges have long since inspired the poets.
