Utilizing solar power and biogas for energy and having been constructed using natural materials and traditional techniques, the Bishangari Eco-lodge is a good example of sustainable environmentally friendly accommodation that has not compromised on quality and luxury. The eight bungalows are tucked between fig trees, all facing the lake, decorated with local native craft works and furnished using natural fibres. The two storey tree bar, created in and around an ancient tree and surrounded by forest, offers a unique and striking place to relax in the evenings. The open air restaurant also gives a different dining experience. The lodge participates in funding sustainable projects designed to assist local communities through the Bishangari Community Fund.
When visiting the Simien Mountains, take binoculars - they're great for spotting Ibex and Gelada baboons.
