This unique Spanish lodge is a welcome addition to the limited accommodation in the unspoilt Tigray region. Perched on a hill overlooking the town of Adigrat on one side and the Gheralta Mountains on the other, Agoro has been beautifully constructed of sandstone blending effortlessly into the landscape. There are 18 twin rooms, which are bright and airy, and simply furnished with plenty of local character. Each has an en suite bathroom and a terrace with lovely views. The main guest area has floor to ceiling windows ensuring wonderful, panoramic views and here you'll find a bar, restaurant and lounge. Service levels are patchy, but this is the decent option in an area where there are very few hotels or if you want to cut the drive down from Axum to the Mekele or Gheralta.
When you are in Gondar - go for dinner at the Four Sisters restaurant. This is a wonderful locally- run authentic spot, which serves great food and a lively atmosphere.
