SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION
Chobe Elephant Camp, Chobe National Park
Set high on a rocky ridge overlooking a beautiful sweep of the Chobe River, the lodge offers easy access to the quieter western part of the park. It has a strong, traditional farmhouse feel with exposed wooden beams, lots of deep comfortable sofas and long verandas with stunning views. Using modern ingenuity, the lodge uses sandbags for insulation so that it stays cool in the summer heat and warm during the cold winter nights, greatly enhancing the lodge’s eco credentials. The 12 spacious, en-suite rooms boast indoor and outdoor showers and their own private verandas. Enjoy Chobe’s famed game drives; boat cruises along a quiet section of the river; and cultural, local village visits.
Lagoon Camp, Linyanti Wetlands
Set beneath a towering grove of wild ebony and marula trees on the banks of the Kwando River, Lagoon Camp is a wonderful place to pass a few days in this game rich corner of Botswana. The views from all around the camp are superb and the location looking down to the river means animals can always be spotted coming to drink when relaxing in camp. With seven double or twin rooms and one two-bedroom family unit, it is a small camp that retains a wonderfully warm and friendly feel. The tented rooms are spacious and comfortable, with Persian rugs, deep leather armchairs, en-suite bathrooms and stunning views out to the river. The main lodge has a thatched roof, open sided lounge area housing the bar and dining room with the nearby swimming pool, a popular spot for guests during the afternoon to take in the views to the Kwando River. A stay here offers some of the most outstanding game viewing in Botswana, with your guide and tracker team always going the extra mile to capture exciting sightings. This is regarded as the best camp in Botswana from which to see wild dogs and the elephant herds in the region.
Pelo Camp, Okavango Delta
Named after the heart shaped island on which it sits, Pelo’s central location within the delta, lack of Wi-Fi and splash of luxury make it a popular choice to relax. The small camp has just five spacious tents which are comfortably furnished with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, and shaded decking areas. The swimming pool and outdoor dining area, complete with a scenic firepit, are nestled under a tree grove. Pelo is a seasonal camp; its opening (Mar-Nov) coincides with rising water levels in the delta, and so water-based activities are a focus including boat safaris, mokoro canoe trips and fishing. Guided walks and dedicated birdwatching safaris can also be enjoyed.
Ilala Lodge, Victoria Falls
The beautifully styled boutique hotel provides easy access to Victoria Falls and the town. With 56 rooms there is always a vibrant atmosphere, but superb staff ensure an efficient and personal service. Bedrooms are spacious and have air-conditioning, full amenities and a traditional feel to them, with small verandas decorated in teak furnishings. The excellent Palm Restaurant, the lounge and bar and well-appointed swimming pool are set amongst luscious gardens. Ilala also owns its own small cruising boat, Ra-Ikane, offering breakfast, lunch and sunset cruises along the upper stretch of Zambezi. Activities are not included in the stay but can be arranged via the concierge.
