SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION
Camp Kalahari, Makgadikgadi Pans Region
Camp Kalahari is on the edge of the Makgadikgadi salt pans in the Kalahari Desert. The remote camp is laid out in traditional safari style with the library, lounge and dining area under thatch rooves. The 10 Meru-style tented rooms have classic, old safari-style interiors, with king or twin beds, crisp cotton sheets and traditional African blankets. The en-suite bathrooms are outdoors and have flush loos and refreshing showers. The family unit comprises two tents with an inter-leading bathroom and children of all ages are welcome. The field guides team up with local bushmen learning how to survive in the harsh environment. Go on morning walks and game drives; venture into the mysterious pans on quad bikes; visit the famous Chapman's Baobab tree; and track the gemsbok, springbok and meerkats with the chance to see the elusive aardvark and brown hyena. The landscape is transformed when the rains arrive in November, bringing with them huge migrations of zebra and wildebeest. The immensity of the Pans is overwhelming, being one of the world's largest super-lakes which dried up thousands of years ago as a result of the earth’s shifting crust.
Moremi Crossing, Okavango Delta
Found near the southern tip of Chief’s Island, overlooking the world-famous Moremi Game Reserve, Moremi Crossing offers tranquil views over the surrounding floodplains. The camp is made up of 16 classic, simple and comfortable safari tents. The small en-suite bathrooms have running water with flush toilets and outdoor showers. The large, open-sided, thatched roof main area of the lodge houses the dining area and bar, and its surrounding decking area is a lovely spot to relax. There are no safari vehicles at Moremi Crossing so guests can enjoy mokoro canoe safaris, birding trips, motorboat safaris and guided walks or a wilderness camp (at an additional cost).
Hyena Pan, Khwai Community Area
This tranquil tented camp in the Khwai Private Reserve is a hive of activity at any time of year as the lodge provides a constant water supply to the local wildlife year round. With only eight tents, Hyena Pan provides a near enough private game experience. Each tent offers simple, practical comfort. The camp is almost entirely generated by solar apart from the gas showers. The game viewing deck is perfect for an afternoon bush tea before taking a refreshing dip in the pool and the campfire often attracts curious elephants at sundown. Explore the 350,000-hectare concession is yours to explore through 4x4 safaris and guided bush walks as well as the nearby Moremi game Reserve Park.
