The wine producing region of Areni Village encompasses many small wineries and factories which make homemade wines. Enjoy a short visit to one of the wineries to sample a variety of wines and discover how they are produced, there is also the chance to purchase some of the wine on offer to take home as a wonderful souvenir.

Visit the oldest winery in the world in Areni-1 cave complex

Hidden in the Areni-1 cave complex is a 6100-year-old winery, discovered in 2007. The cave boasted wonderfully preserved fermentation vats, a wine press, storage jars and pottery shards, which had been buried after the roof caved in. A leather shoe was also found, believed to be the oldest in the world. Remains of grape seeds, fruits and nuts provides a deeper understanding of wine product thousands of years ago in Armenia.
