WF MD Jonny recently spent a week in Jordan. Below he looks back at the highlights of his trip and why he wholeheartedly thinks that now is a great time to visit.
If you'd like to visit Jordan, take a look at our Jordan holidays.
Into the Dana Gorge – this is a surprisingly spectacular gorge that sits on the edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve. It’s a great place for walks and treks and enjoying local fruit; we had pomegranates, figs and walnuts.
Chicken liver and pomegranate with thyme… delicious!
The back walk into Petra is magical… not only is it a stunning walk through the region's rugged terrain, it also means you enter the site avoiding the crowds. To find out more about the route and experience of visiting Petra, read my recent blog.
Not going to see Jerash; it looks like an amazing Roman site and one I would have loved to have seen if I'd had more time.
Tips for travellers
Go to Jordan! It's an amazing destination and one of the most friendly places I have ever been. It's unjustifiably quiet at the moment, but this does mean it's a great time to go as crowds are non-existent. Everywhere I went I was made to feel welcome, I always felt completely safe and didn't for a moment feel any ill will.
Watching the sun set over Wadi Rum… pure magic. I enjoyed the view from a wonderful camp in almost the exact location where David Lean filmed part of his epic film 'Lawrence of Arabia' - it truly was one of the most special sunsets I've seen in years.
