Scuba diving is one of those exhilarating activities you may have dreamed about for years. Maybe you love snorkeling and want to try exploring a little deeper next time, or perhaps you’re curious as to what it’s like to breath underwater while floating weightless within the big blue. Maybe you are already a certified diver but want to increase your skills and knowledge with an advanced or specialty course.
With the amount of exotic, spellbinding, weird, freaky, wonderful, and beautiful marine life out there, I’ve always thought of scuba diving as my own private underwater safari, a chance to experience a piece of life on this planet we’d never get to see in our day-to-day lives. If any of this sounds like what you’ve been thinking about lately, then getting certified to dive while on holiday in Thailand is one of the easiest and most rewarding things you can do.
In Thailand you are literally spoiled for choice of dive sites, having some of the best diving in the world. With its multiple renown dive sites, Thailand appeals to every level of diver out there. The Gulf of Thailand sits on the east coast of the country and the Andaman Sea on the west, with each having a different main diving season, so it is possible to dive all year round due to Thailand’s warm climate and large variety of dive sites.
Pick virtually any southern beach destination or island in Thailand and you’re bound to find good diving close by. For any Thailand tailor-made tour that we arrange, we can easily add in a diving destination at the end of your trip. From the reefs, wrecks, and the wide variety of marine life big and small, to the number of friendly, knowledgeable, well-run dive operators, Thailand has never failed me as a fun and fantastic dive destination.
Our dive partners in Thailand offer everything from one-day Discovery Dives to month-long Dive Master courses. However, most people are looking for an Open Water, or an Advanced Open Water certification – the first two basic recreational diving certifications. Level one, or Open Water certification, takes 3-4 days and includes 4 dives, the first 2 in a confined water space such as a pool and the second two in open water in the ocean. When finished you will be certified to dive up to 18 meters, or 60 feet.
Advanced Open Water certification takes 3 days and builds on this knowledge by adding in navigation skills, night diving and deep diving, allowing you to learn to dive safely up to 30 meters, or 100 feet. If you’re not sure you’re ready for that much of a commitment, or you’d like to try it out first before going for a full certification, you can always have us schedule a day long Discovery Dive which includes a morning basic skills class in the pool before an afternoon open water dive in easy, fun and shallow conditions.
At Wild Frontiers, we work with a group of top-notch diving partners, with excellent safety records, superb dive sites, friendly dive masters and highly knowledgeable instructors. We have the knowledge and expertise to help pair you with the right dive operator based on your individual needs, including your previous diving experience, where you’d like to go and what you’d like to do.
Thailand has a wide variety of islands and beaches to choose from that offer many different vibes, so whether you like quiet, laid-back beach time, or nightclubs, bars and Full Moon parties, we can tailor your diving experience to the beach destination best suited for you.
My only warning – diving is highly addictive! Once you start scuba diving, be prepared to start a hobby that builds into a passion that could very well last a lifetime.
