Congratulations to Mr Her Lee, Miss Douci Yang, Miss Toulaphone and Mr Kor Yang, who have all been named Class 3A 'Student of the Month' since the Lone Buffalo English school, in Northern Laos, re-opened its doors in June.

Fortunately, with low rates of COVID-19 infections and no deaths in Laos, Lone Buffalo was able to welcome students back after a nine-week absence. With set home learning and two weeks of refresher lessons on their return, the students were quickly back on track with their classes.

The Wild Frontiers Foundation has supported Lone Buffalo's class sponsorship programme for six years and are always delighted to hear about the progress of the students.

The school, co-founded by Wild Frontiers tour leader Mark Steadman, nurtures students from the rural communities surrounding Phonsavan from beginners' level through to gaining their high school certificate, providing every opportunity to move on to higher education.

This year 40 students completed high school, with 36 having gone on to secure places in tertiary education. The centre has also had record new registrations.

While studying at Lone Buffalo, the students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including football to build confidence and self-esteem (particularly in the girls, who make up 48% of the students) and even helping to run their own 'Bombs to Beans' coffee enterprise.

The Wild Frontiers Foundation is proud to contribute to helping the students of Lone Buffalo achieve their goals.

If you would like to support our work in communities we visit as a travel company, please give what you can.
