Pongwe Beach Lodge, Zanzibar

Pongwe Beach was opened with the intention of being one of the most relaxed hotels on Zanzibar and we certainly feel that it achieves this. Found on a quiet stretch of the island’s east coast, the lodge is great for those looking to enjoy the full spectrum of what Zanzibar can offer. At 20 rooms this is a small hotel by Zanzibar standards, with the rooms all nestled in amongst the palm trees and forest areas that lead straight out on to the wide, white sand beach. Hammocks are slung up at strategic spots allowing guests to lie back, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the area. All of the rooms are spacious and comfortable, although we recommend trying to book one of the beachfront rooms for a true island experience. The main bar and restaurant area overlooks the swimming pool which is a popular spot to relax in when the tide is out, and staff are always on hand to serve drinks and chat about island life. The lodge offers guests the full range of Zanzibar activities including water sports, snorkelling and diving, as well as trips to Stonetown and the nearby Pongwe Village for cultural insight into life on Zanzibar.
