Tesfa Village Homestays, Meket
Tesfa Village Homestays
No frills, basic accommodation, but often in the most exciting of places
Our rating: Simple | Property style: Homestay
Set up by former WF guide Mark Chapman, Tesfa village homestays are a wonderful way of getting off the tourist circuit and experiencing the hospitality of rural communities. Although simple, the accommodation, made out of a collection of two or three traditional tukuls, is clean and tidy, completely eco-friendly and hugely evocative, giving you the chance to experience Ethiopia in its natural form. Each camp has an eco loo with a view and a bucket shower although hot water can be limited. All camps are positioned on the edge of the amazing highland escarpments, for which the region is famed, offering some of the most spectacular views the country has to offer. But perhaps the best part about a stay is the knowledge that your money is going directly into the local community as it is they that will look after you. This also offers a great way to interact with these rural Ethiopian communities, mostly farming families. For those that want to delve a little deeper, this is a perfect option and will be a highlight of your holiday.
