Never have our Netflix (well, all streaming services) subscriptions been utilised better than in 2020. It's been the source of laughter, tears and some much-needed distraction. We asked around the office (via email of course) what everyone has been enjoying recently in case you needed some more binge material.

Mike - My Octopus Teacher, Netflix

This moving documentary follows the bond that develops between an intelligent octopus and a diver who, after burning out at work, seeks solace under the seas. After watching this, I can never eat octopus again!

Hayley - Street Food Asia/Latin America, Netflix

I'm not usually into food shows, I find it torture to watch people cooking without being able to chow down after. What I loved about this Netflix series was the stories behind the street food chefs, the resilience and brilliance of these people. It still had my mouth-watering but I had a goofy smile on too.

Marc - 13th, Netflix

My top recommendation would be 13th on Netflix. It opened my eyes both to the historical and current policies which lie behind much of the Black Lives Matter movement. I guarantee that you’ll never view a prison conviction the same way again after watching this documentary.

Richard - El Faro de las Orcas, Netflix

This film leaves no doubt that solitude and romance need not be diametrically opposed. Set on the majestic windswept cliffs of Argentina's Patagonia coast, El Faro de las Orcas shows that wellness travel has nothing to do with spas or yoga with a great view, but rather achieving peace in relationships via immersion in the humility that authentic experiences afford us.

Clem - Normal People, BBC iPlayer

Based on Sally Rooney's bestselling novel (probably my best read of the year whilst we're there), Normal People tells a story of friendship and first love in rural Ireland between Marianne and Connell. A story of miscommunications, this series manages to recreate the painfully intense yet beautiful story of Rooney's words in breathtakingly arty shots. I was totally gripped despite the fact that I knew how the story unfolds having just finished the book days before starting to watch it!

Tara - Watchmen, HBO and David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet, Netflix

I think that the best series I have watched all year is Watchmen (stream on HBO) – Based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, this incredibly well-done series is based 34 years after the original story (Watchmen 2009) portraying an alternate history timeline that is thought-provoking, dynamic and riveting.

I'm also about a third of the way through A Life on Our Planet and I'm really enjoying that so far!
