Known as the ‘Paris of the North’, Tromsø is blessed with being 69 degrees north, 350 kilometres above the Arctic Circle, making it a popular destination for viewing the Northern Lights. Travel from Tromsø where there are plenty of outdoor adventures nearby in the Arctic wilderness and fjords of the Lyngen Alps. After trying your hand at husky sledding, return to Tromsø to hunt for the Northern Lights on a luxurious catamaran.
Head south towards the world-renowned Lofoten Islands, stopping at the cosy Fjellkysten Guesthouse en route. Enjoying the hospitality of authentic fishing cabins and charming rustic hotels, you’ll enjoy an opportunity to photograph the Aurora Borealis, sample delicious fresh fish and explore traditional fishing villages. This itinerary ensures a cultural and scenic winter experience like no other.

DAY 1: TROMSO - LYNGEN ALPS

DAY 1: TROMSO - LYNGEN ALPS
Arrive in Tromsø airport where you will be met and transferred to Lyngen Experience Lodge, around a two-hour drive away. There will be a break for a 25-minute ferry journey en route. Enjoy dinner tonight before relaxing in Lyngen Experience Lodge's outdoor hot tub, overlooking the ocean and mountains, hopefully with the Northern Lights dancing above.
DAY 2: LYNGEN ALPS

DAY 2: LYNGEN ALPS
Meet your trusty pack at the husky kennel this morning. Your guide will instruct you on how to mush the huskies in preparation for a sled ride into majestic landscapes, with only the sounds of paws in snow breaking the silence. Take in the coastal location of the Lyngen Alps at its most magical, in winter. Retire once more to the confines of Lyngen Experience Lodge for another delicious dinner.
DAY 3: LYNGEN ALPS - TROMSO

DAY 3: LYNGEN ALPS - TROMSO
You will depart for Tromsø this morning. Upon arrival, check into Clarion The Edge. Following a free afternoon, you will be transferred back to the catamaran for an evening sailing in search of the Northern Lights. Enjoy warm coffee as you lie on the net of the spacious catamaran or take photos of the spectacle with the help of your guide. For an additional cost you can stay on the catamaran overnight.
DAY 4: TROMSO - FJELLKYSTEN

DAY 4: TROMSO - FJELLKYSTEN
You will be driven south from Tromsø to Fjellkysten Guesthouse, taking approximately three-hours. Soak up this oceanside location from your Ocean View Room. This afternoon and evening you are free to relax or take part in an optional activity such as another Northern Lights hunt.
DAY 5: FJELLKESTEN - SVOLAVAER

DAY 5: FJELLKESTEN - SVOLAVAER
Continue to the charming and picturesque fishing community of Svinøya, located in the centre of Svolvær harbour sandwiched between the Arctic Ocean and the impressive peaks of the Lofoten Mountains. Staying in authentically designed rorbu cabins (unique to the Lofoten Islands), you'll be based in the oldest part of Svolvær for the duration of your stay. After settling in, enjoy a tour of the surrounding fishing community. Then head to the hotel restaurant, one of the Lofoten's most renowned, for a three-course dinner.
DAY 6: SVOLVAER

Today provides the opportunity to explore the Lofoten Island's famous coastline on a RIB boat safari. You will visit the magical Trollfjord, surrounded by mountains rising 1000m directly from the ocean. Sea eagles are often spotted gliding or hunting around here. The experienced guides offer plenty of good stories and local knowledge as you take in the incredible landscape. You then have another free afternoon before heading out on a Northern Lights photography focused tour. Watching this incredible wonder of nature is magical enough but being able to capture it and take home is even better.
DAY 7: SVOLVAER - HENNINGSVAER - SVOLVAER

DAY 7: SVOLVAER - HENNINGSVAER - SVOLVAER
Head out of Svolvær today and south to the islands of Henningsvær, famous for its postcard worthy fishermen's huts overlooking the mountains and sea. The town is spread over several islands and contains quaint art galleries, a fish factory, glass blowing displays and picturesque beaches. Only a 40-minute drive from Svolvær, you will visit other sites of interest on the way there. Return to Svolvær for dinner and your final Northern Lights tour, increasing your chance of seeing the Aurora borealis.
DAY 8: SVOLVAER - AIRPORT

You will be transferred to the airport in time for your onward flight.

Clarion Hotel The Edge, Tromsø
Located on the city’s waterfront in the heart of Tromsø. All 290 rooms come with private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and satellite TV, whilst the relaxed ambience of the restaurant offers an ideal sport to enjoy a selection of local and organically produced food. Located just over six kilometres from the airport and strongly focused on taking an eco-friendly approach to tourism, the hotel can also boast Tromsø’s only sky-bar and a gym and sauna area that includes a steam room and cold plunge pool.
Svinøya Rorbuer, Svolvær
Stay within the gorgeous Lofoten Islands in a converted original rorbu on the island of Svinøya. At the Svinøya Rorbuer you are surrounded by an authentic fishing village, connected to the mainland and the rest of Svolvær by a bridge. Originally the cabins were used to store equipment and food, but now they house visitors providing them with views overlooking the ocean on one side and the spectacular Lofoten mountains on the other. Each cabin is equipped with one to three bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a lounge and a modern bathroom with a shower and toilet.
Lyngen Experience Lodge, Lyngen Alps
Lyngen Experience Lodge is situated in Ulsfjord and is surrounded by pristine landscapes, allowing for superb Northern Lights viewing. Only a two-hour drive from Tromsø, the lodge ensures easy access to the Arctic wilderness, perfect for an array of winter activities. The lodge itself has nine, en suite guest rooms, all overlooking the fjord. There are also apartment rooms available featuring one, two or three bedrooms, again, all overlooking the fjord. The communal areas are practical for the winter environment, with a sauna, cosy socialising area and boot room. Aside from the usual winter sports and Northern Lights activities, the lodge offers sea safaris, where it is possible to spot whales and eagles. The best way to end a day here is in the outdoor hot tub, searching for the Aurora Borealis and sharing stories of the days winter highlights.
Fjellkysten Guesthouse, Soløyveien
Fjellkysten takes inspiration from old Nordic architecture with simple, contemporary interiors in typically Scandinavian, neutral colours. Room categories include standard rooms, rooms with fjord views and family rooms. The cosy guesthouse sits slightly elevated on a hill looking out towards the river and the magnificent surrounding fjords. A range of tours and experiences can be reserved through the hotel ranging from active to cultural. Accommodation is simple and modern, and all rooms come with a self-catering kitchenette; however, there is also and on-site restaurant serving Nordic flavours and fresh local produce. The spa includes a traditional dry sauna and an outdoor hot tub.
