Boasting no fewer than seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, some of the country’s best hotels and some of its finest architecture and cuisine, this is a region that offers up the quintessential India experience. Beginning in Mumbai, you’ll have an opportunity to explore something of the city's colonial heritage, before catching the train to Bhopal. Your gateway onto the UNESCO treasures around Sanchi, including the historic streets of Bhopal which is also home to the largest mosque in India. You will get to explore the 10,000 year old cave paintings of Bhimbetka, before heading to the remote forests of the Satpura National Park, you’ll enjoy some exciting safari opportunities, before continuing on to Hyderabad. After exploring some of the monuments and markets of India’s “City of Pearls”, you’ll continue into neighbouring Karnataka to visit Bijapur’s stunning Islamic architecture and the unmissable ruins at Hampi, one of India’s most remarkable sites. Heading on to the Goan coast from here, your journey then ends besides the tranquil waters of the Arabian Sea

Arrive at Mumbai airport and transfer to your hotel. Discover some of the finest monuments of this great city, including the stunning Gateway of India, Gandhi Museum, Flora Fountain, Victoria Terminus and the Rajabai Clock Tower. Time permitting continue on to the vibrant Crawford Market, before making your way to Marine Drive, a beautiful promenade along the shoreline of the Arabian Sea. Time allowing enjoy the serenity of the beautifully manicured Hanging Gardens before later heading to Kamala Nehru Park to enjoy magnificent views.

Up early to catch the train from Mumbai to Bhopal this morning, where you will be collected by your driver and transferred to your lovely city centre hotel where there will be a chance to freshen up and have a swim before stepping out on an old town heritage walk.

This morning set off north to Sanchi to visit this stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site. From here you will then continue on to the stunning Udayagiri Caves ("Risen Mountain"), one of India's most important archaeological sites and yet far less visited. Return to Bhopal where you can enjoy some lunch, before setting off to explore the old city.

After breakfast you'll drive south towards Satpura, stopping en route to visit the second of six world heritage sites, the extraordinary rock shelter complex and Palaeolithic rock art at Bhimbetka. From here you will drive on to Satpura to stay at the wonderful lodge called Reni Pani. After lunch you'll head out, across the Narmada River, and into the park on your first jeep safari.

One of the great things about Satpura is that there is a multitude of ways to experience the park. This morning you might go for a boat ride up the Narmada River, or canoe deep into the river's creeks and inlets. You might go for a jungle walk deep into the bush and tiger territory. After around three hours you will return to the lodge for a bit of relaxation beside the pool, before heading back out in the late afternoon for another safari.
Day 6 SATPURA - BHOPAL - HYDERABAD

Today you will drive back to Bhopal where you can have an early lunch before being transferred to the airport for your flight to Hyderabad - the City of Pearls. Arriving in the late afternoon you will be picked up and transferred to your amazing hotel, which will be home for the next two nights.

This morning you will begin your tour at the Old City and the 16th century Charminar, which houses Hyderabad's oldest mosque. Then you can explore the bazaars around the Charminar and look around the Mecca Masjid, which can house 10,000 worshippers. From here you can grab some lunch then and head out of town to see Golconda Fort, which was the capital of Telangana until 1590 when a terrible drought forced the city's move and the founding of Hyderabad. You will then return to town, stopping en route to wander around the serenely set Tombs of the Qutb Shahi Kings.
Day 8 HYDERABAD - VIJAYAPURA (BIJAPUR)

After breakfast you will drive to the neighbouring state of Karnataka and Bijapur with its dominating Islamic architecture. The drive will take most of the day and late in the afternoon you'll have time to explore the magnificent Golgumbaz, which is the town's largest monument having a 38-metre diameter dome - second only in size to St Peter's Basilica in Rome - and the stunning Ibrahim Rouza Mausoleum, which is considered by many to be one of the most finely proportioned Islamic monuments in India.
Day 9 VIJAYAPURA (BIJAPUR) - HAMPI

This morning you'll drive on to Hampi. Here you will check into your hotel and take your first look around yet another incredibly area.

Spend today exploring the historical wonders of Hampi. Hampi's spectacular ruins, decorated with the finest carvings, are associated with Kishkinda, the fabled monkey kingdom in the Ramayana. Early settlements here date to the 1st Century AD, but by 1300 Hampi was a stronghold of the Vijayanagara Empire, protected by the Tungabhadra River and surrounding hills. Discover the rare architectural gems like the 'musical pillared' Vithala Temple, the Virupaksha Temple, the Hampi Bazaar and the Monolith Bull, spread out across 26 square kilometres of evocative Indian plains.

Today you will be collected from your hotel and taken for a second tour of Hampi, visiting the main sights in the royal centre and the sacred centre. In the morning you will visit the royal enclosure, the seat of power of the Vijayanagara kingdom, and the Queens Bath, believed to be constructed for the women of the royal family of Vijayanagara. After enjoying lunch at a beautiful spot by the river, in the afternoon you can continue to explore the Achutaraya Temple and enjoy a splendid view as you walk along the banks of the scenic Tungabhadra River.
Day 12 HAMPI - BADAMI

This morning you'll drive on to Badami stopping en route to visit the Chalukya dynasty's wonderful 5th century temples at Aihole and the UNESCO site of Pattadakal. Having checked into your hotel in the afternoon you will have a chance to visit the amazing Buddhist rock-carved temples.

After breakfast you will be picked up again for the last leg of your fascinating Central India journey, west to the Goa coastline and the Arabian Sea. On arrival in Goa you will transfer to your hotel and from here enjoy a well-earned stroll along the beach.

Reni Pani Jungle Lodge, Satpura National Park
This is a wonderful property, situated in a picturesque location among deep forest on the fringes of the park, is owned and run by two royal princes of Bhopal and benefits greatly from their presence. Each of the 12 cottages are spaced well apart with high roofs and attractive balconies, indoor and outdoor showers, twin basins and separate loos. The rooms themselves are stylish and spacious, fitted with inverter systems (so when the power fails, your A/C and fan won't stop) and with a pre-order, drinks ice box. And most importantly each room has an assigned butler! The property also has a lovely swimming pool and sun deck, a library and small shop, the proceeds of which go to the local community. There is a large central lodge with lounge and dining areas although dinner is usually served outside. As well as the usual jeep safaris, boat trips and canoe excursions, from here you are also able to enjoy horse rides - on the family's lovely thoroughbreds - day treks through the jungle to ancient temples and cave paintings, mountain biking and village walks. Reni Pani operates predominantly on a jungle plan basis, meaning all meals and activities are included. And here they throw in your alcoholic beverages as well.
Jehan Numa Palace, Bhopal
Built in 1890 by the Nawab's second son, Obaidullah Khan, commander-in-chief of the Bhopal state forces, this former royal palace is pretty much what you would expect of a converted heritage hotel. Elegant architecture and character with pretty gardens and walkways. There is even a rather surreal horse track running around an extension of the complex. There are 100 well equipped rooms, split into various categories, and it's probably worth going for one of the higher levels, such as the regal and imperial rooms or suites which are only slightly more expensive but much nicer. There is a nice swimming pool, a modern gym, small spa, charming coffee shop and three restaurants, one of which, the Indian restaurant ‘Under The Mango Tree’, is actually rather good.
Hampi's Boulders, Hampi
This wonderful property is the perfect place to enjoy some downtime when visiting Hampi. Located right on the northern banks of the Tungabhadra River about an hour from Hampi's archaeological ruins, Hampi's Boulders was created very much with nature in mind, incorporating the surrounding landscape of water and boulders into the design of the property and having as little impact as possible on the overall location. The 16 rooms are spread across the property in a range of different 'cottages', each with it's own character and design, all very spacious and with en suite bathrooms. Here guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature in between exploring one of India's most impressive sites.

A real gem of a hotel situated amidst lush rice paddy fields and a short walk to the beach. It’s a luxury hotel in south Goa adjacent to sandy Majorda beach and only a 20 minute drive from Goa International Airport. The Kyriad is a standard 3-star hotel, considered one of the best hotels in Bijaipur and located near the main historic sites. Even though the hotel lacks any architectural merit or aesthetics, it has 35 spacious rooms that come with ensuite bathrooms and are well equipped with modern amenities. The hotel prides itself for having the best South Indian restaurant in town, Haritam, serving delicious thalis and local delicacies. The second restaurant, Biso, offers western and Italian food options, but the local cuisine at the other restaurant is recommended. There is no better choice, if you wish to visit Bijapur’s stunning monuments.
