Travel deep into the tranquil taiga forests of Finland’s eastern Saariselkä fells to enjoy the remote beauty of the Muotka Wilderness Lodge and Nellim Wilderness Lodge. Here you will enjoy an extensive range of exciting winter adventures that encompass a truly magnificent Lapland adventure.
Against a backdrop of snow-covered forests and frozen lakes, your days will be spent enjoying snowmobile safaris and Husky sled rides, Arctic snowshoe adventures and the shimmering colours of the Northern Lights. A visit to a local farm also provides a chance to learn first-hand what it is like to be a Sami reindeer herder in these remote and harsh landscapes.
Evenings will then be spent enjoying warm hospitality and the peace and serenity of landscapes far removed from the distractions of everyday life, as you spend the nights in pursuit of the unique displays of the Aurora Borealis at remote locations and Aurora camps set deep in the wilds of the Finnish wilderness, as well as having the chance to watch the spectacle from a warm and cosy Aurora Bubble.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: IVALO AIRPORT - LAKE INARI

DAY 1: IVALO AIRPORT - LAKE INARI
Arrive at Ivalo Airport today and transfer the short distance to the rustic Muokta Lodge. After dinner this evening you will be taken out to a remote Aurora camp on Lake Inari for your first night of Aurora hunting.
DAY 2: MUOTKA

DAY 2: MUOTKA
After breakfast you will be driven out to a local reindeer farm by snowmobile where you will meet the herder and hear more about life in these dramatic Lapland landscapes. You'll also get a chance to learn how to lasso reindeer and feed them before a warming lunch besides an open fire. Heading back to the lodge in time for a relaxing sauna, you will then go in hunt of the Northern Lights via snowshoe.
DAY 3: MUOTKA - LAKE INARI - MUOTKA

DAY 3: MUOTKA - LAKE INARI - MUOTKA
This morning has been set aside for an unforgettable three-hour husky safari on Lake Inari. After a full briefing, you'll set off to mush your way across the pristine Arctic wilderness with just the sounds of the dogs and the swish of the snow on the runners to disturb the peace. Following a transfer to Muotka and a relaxing afternoon, this evening then sees you heading out again after dinner on a snowmobile ride across the frozen lakes and forests in search of the Northern Lights.

DAY 4: MUOTKA
Following a network of snow-blanketed trails you'll slow the pace down a little today, as you spend the morning snowshoeing through the Finnish wilderness. The perfect way to appreciate the breathtaking beauty around you, the trip will take around three to four hours, stopping off along the way to enjoy a light picnic beside an open fire before heading back to the hotel in time for a relaxing sauna before dinner. Then, spend tonight in the warm and cosy Aurora Bubble, with the aim of capturing the Northern Lights on camera.
DAY 5: MUOTKA - IVALO AIRPORT

Depart after breakfast and transfer back to the airport at Ivalo.

Located deep in a taiga forest, close to Urho Kekkonen National Park, the Muotka Wilderness Lodge provides a choice of comfortable en suite rooms and suites. Other options include a night in an Aurora Cabin, which comes with its own private sauna and a view of the sky from your bed, or a chance to experience the unique setting of the Aurora Bubble. An on-site restaurant provides an array of locally sourced Lappish cuisine and activities at the lodge include aurora snowmobile trips, snowshoe tours and a visit to a local reindeer farm.
