MARVEL AT ALA ARCHA NATIONAL PARK
Head out to the mountains of the Ala Archa National Park and take in a hike amidst the unspoiled nature. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and journey through the fragrant pine and juniper forest, spotting the President’s summer palace, butterflies and wild tulips.
WANDER THE RUINS OF PENJIKENT
Once home to 20,000 people during the early days of the Silk Road, the 2,000-year-old ruins of Penjikent in the Zerafshan Valley is a local favourite. Wander the ruined streets and easily imagine the well-laden caravans that would have passed this way.
EXPLORE THE HISTORY OF TASHKENT
See the main sights via the city's metro with its richly decorated stations. Visit the central square Amir Timur Maydoni, the statue of Tamerlane on horseback, the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Applied Arts Museum and the Old Quarter of the city.
ESCAPE INTO THE CITY OF ASHGABAT
Take the day to explore this wonderfully bizarre city of fountains and lavish white marble buildings. Visit the National Museum, statue of Lenin, Independence Park, Arch of Neutrality, Wedding Palace and the beautiful Ottoman style mosque of Ertuğrul Gazi.
ADMIRE THE ANCIENT BURANA TOWER
Visit the Burana Tower in Tokmok, an 11th century minaret, all that remains of Turkic Karakhanid, once a powerful city on the Silk Road. Over time, various earthquakes destroyed the city and reduced the towers height from 42 to 24 meters that you see today.
VISIT THE SUMMER PALACE OF BUKHARA
Visit the summer palace of Bukhara's last Emir. The palace is an eclectic mix of Oriental and European design and contains a good collection of suzanis (traditional embroidery) and Chinese porcelain brought to Bukhara by camel caravan in the 19th century.
EXPLORE THE SIGHTS OF KHIVA
Considered a pearl of eastern architecture, Khiva is one of the oldest cities of ancient Khorezm. Legend has it that is was founded by Shem, the son of Noah, and archaeological records can trace its origins back to the 4th or 5th century BC.
MARVEL THE MAJESTY OF REGISTAN
Explore Samarkand's most impressive sight, Registan Square 'Sandy Place' in Persian. Surrounded on three sides by blue tiled madrassahs, it is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture and no picture can convey the magnificence of this square.
WALK THE PATHS OF TASH RABAT

About The Silk Road
For over two thousand years, the Silk Road was a vital link between east and west, spreading wealth, philosophy, faith and empire. The Silk Road is the oldest and most historically important trade route from the Chinese city of Xi'an in the east to Istanbul in the west. It may no longer be thronged with camel caravans and daring explorers, but willing travellers will still be rewarded with an unrivalled combination of culture and jawdropping scenery.
Each new destination along the Silk Road offers something new and different, just as it has done for the countless pilgrims, merchants and warriors who have gone before. There are the ancient cities of Uzbekistan that seem to belong to an age of myths and the pristine mountains of Kyrgyzstan with its traditional nomadic culture. All of our Silk Road tours to destinations throughout Central Asia offer unmatched experiences for young and old alike, on foot or by horse, from mountains to deserts and from ancient fortresses to modern cities.
